Outfit Opinions

My Mom is doing some shopping in India and has photographed outfits. A few of them, I am unsure of and I wanted to see what you guys think of them. She is doing general and trousseau shopping and if I do not like the pieces, she will gift them or maybe keep them herself. I just want to see what you girls think.

The first sari is white and I think it's mesh and has an interesting border. I'm not sure if I am a fan.

The second is a purple with blue that will be turned into a chaniya choli.

The rest are fabulous - she did an excellent job. I am a fan of colors (no neons though, unless they aren't too harsh) so I am really pleased.

In general, I think saris are more useful than other Desi clothes because you can wear them to a lot of functions, adjust the size more easily, and they don't look outdated as soon.

However, I am so not a fan of mesh, which seems to be very popular right now.  I just think it tends to look bulky and if you do the pleats a bit off it shows more.  Otherwise I would say a white sari is good to have.

The other one seems like the dupatta has nice work, but it's hard to tell what color it is in real life and I'm not sure if I like the textile itself (it looks like a brocade with embroidery/applique?).  It would probably look nice once it's made.  It kind of depends how much you like the color.

The second one is a chaniya choli, so it will be a skirt, a top, and a sash - I believe.

She has picked others I LOVE such as:

These are beautiful! I like the idea of the first sari, but I am not sure of the net. I feel like that would get dated too quickly (from my perspective, but I would rarely get a chance to wear it in the first place.)

I read in the other post that your engagement would probably be this year - how exciting! You must be so happy!  Sorry to hear that you had to miss the wedding though.

I'm thinking he's going to propose within the next few months.

My Mom met up with his family in India and attended his sister's wedding. She met all his extended family - which isn't necessarily a step but it's another sign of things to come. I think he has a ring, but I am not sure. I guess we'll wait and see.

We're thinking sagai (engagement) there and wedding/reception here. Who knows? I guess I'll be patient and let it happen when it does. I'm not rushing or worried.

    Ooh!  You're so lucky!  I especially like the 2nd, 7th, and 8th.

I was a little sad I didn't get all that... even though it's not like I would use a ton of saris but it's still so much fun LOL!

Is he from India or did his sister marry someone from there?

His sister met her husband in England where they live through friends. Since a lot of her family and all of his is in India, they wanted the wedding there.

Yea I bought a few salvars and things. It's great for more non-formal things I find. I bought I think just as many as sari's this time. I say go with the second. It's "instyle" now. I bought two of them and got one as a gift.

The sari's I love the first and second to the last. Best of luck! If she gets a deal tell her to buy them all!

She did buy them all. These are ones she's already bought. Alongside punjabi suits. She'll be buying the heavier saris today. She'll be at Bawari and Seasons!

I'm just glad she got a few, I had no idea she'd get so many. I just want nice classic pieces to hold onto.

The second set of pics, all the pieces are gorgeous!

As for the first saree, I am not a big fan of net because even though it is pretty, I agree it makes one look bulky (unless of course a girl is super thin and that would probably give a "filling" effect and would look good)

The second is kinda hard to see but seeing the pallu would be good because I am assuming that portion would become the chunni?? So if it contrasts from the rest of the saree, I think it would look nice. Hope this helps

Love them Sonali....I seriously can't wait till it's your time :)

I wore a mesh sari for my sangeet (it was the outfit that was given to me by my MIL during the chuni ceremony) and I was afraid to wear it.

It does make you look a little more chubby (well for me it did) but it is so sexy! b/c everything is mesh! (see thru hehehe) I would def suggest getting a metalic coloured blouse and petti coat...it's such a cool look!
