Bridal shop liquidation sales?

So next week is a 4 day liquidation sale at a bridal shop.  They are moving to a new location.  I haven't been to this shop yet becuase it's an hour away, but she advertised $1000 dresses going for $399.  Carry and cash only.

She sells a lot of Maggie Sottero (seems too fancy for my theme) and Sottero and Midgely.  I asked if she has any marked down in the $200-300 range and she said yes, all high quality dresses.

I can only make it to the 3rd day.  Do you think it'll be worth it?  I could hit a David's Bridal since I'm already that far.

Any tips I should know before going into something like this?  I'd probably do any alterations up in my town.

  • Wow!! That sounds great! For an event like that, be prepared to wait in line. Once you get inside, I would suggest pulling 5 random dresses for yourself, give them a once-over to see if they meet your basic criteria and bring them back to the dressing area. It will be easier to give them a closer look once you are away from the chaos and narrow it down from there. If you have any friends who would like to help you bring dresses back and forth from the dressing area to the floor then that would make a huge difference. The best thing to remember is that no matter how good the deal is, it's irrelevant if you don't love the dress. Sorry! That was kind of long but I think you get the gist...good luck!!
  • I agree with everything Penny said.  I've never been to a liquidation sale but I did go to some traveling dress shop that had huge markdowns on gowns.  I ended up finding my dress there and I agree that if you can find a person or two to go with you to bring them with you.  It will definitely help in getting more dresses at once and you can try and rotate them into the dressing room.

This exactly!  My mom was trying to like another dress that I tried on better because she likes a good deal (it was about $300 cheaper than the one I bought), but it just didn't feel like my wedding dress, so I convinced her that it wasn't a good idea...she sometimes can't see past the savings. :)

Wise words!  I am such a deal hunter that sometimes I let that trump everything.

I will probably have to go alone.  I have no family here, and none of my female acquaintances are invited to the wedding.  That would be tacky right?  Asking an acquaintance who isn't a guest?  I thought so.
  • Sounds awesome to me!!  Have fun!!  Don't ask someone who isn't invited to the wedding to tag along...
