Ideas for passages to be said during ceremony honoring same-sex partnerships!?

My FI and I are gigantic supporters of gay marriage and would like to honor it somehow in our ceremony. I've already pondered the idea of buying one of those White Knot kits and placing them on each seat with the programs (along with an explanation of the white knot- that explanation has yet to be figured out), and people could choose to wear the knot if they want.

I've also heard of just having a white knot in my bouquet, but would like to have something a bit more out there than that.

I'm wondering if there are any passages that you guys have used/heard in ceremonies that support gay marriage because I haven't had much luck finding something that would work :-)

A fair number of people have used language from the Massachusetts decision legalizing same-sex marriage as a wedding reading.

As in Bible passages?  I don't think you'll find those...

And I'm a huge supporter of gay marriage as well (SIL is gay and engaged) but I dont know if I'd put anything about it in my own, hetero wedding.  Can you just put something- like the white ribbon- in your program with some wording along the lines of, "in honor of all the loving gay couples who are not allowed to marry" or something like that?

side note: the whole week of my wedding I had this as my FB pic and had the description, "In honor of my fast approaching wedding, I will take this chance to plug my firm belief that marriage is not a heterosexual institution; it is a basic human right and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot."

It's a Bible passage saying another woman who is not a virgin when she gets married shall be executed.

I know this isn't what the original post was asking about but I wanted to reply to the person who responded.

My wife and I married this summer in a non-denominational chapel ceremony with our entire family in attendance. We were both raised in very religious families and decided to include two Bible passages in our ceremony: the old wedding stand-by from First Corinthians and also a passage from Ruth, where the two women pledge their devotion to each other. Both readings were fitting and beautiful and our families seemed pleased with the religious inclusion, not at all offended that these Biblical passages didn't apply to us as two women.

Lesbian weddings are no different from every other wedding out there... 100% open to interpretation and customization. Do whatever feels right, whether it be a religious or political or completely off-beat message.

I'm not looking for bible verses or anything like that. We're having a non-denominational ceremony since neither FI or I identify with a particular religion.

I was just looking for say, a poem, essay-whatever that would convey support for same sex unions. My sister who will be my MOH is out, along with several of my relatives and friends. I want to honor them, plus express my FI and I's undying support for the cause.

I'm planning on getting a White Knot kit and setting them out on everyone's seats at the ceremony along with a card (or something) explaining what it is and guests can choose to wear it if they want.
