Closer to decisions about dresses!

Alright... so I went to David's Bridal with one of my BM's yesterday... we selected what we THINK will be the bridesmaid dress, talked about shoes (going to probably let them pick silver shoes that are comfortable for them), and I actually tried on 3 dresses for me.

I am 100% sure I want white - as opposed to soft white, ivory, champagne, etc...

I am 100% sure that I am NOT going to be one of those brides who cries when putting on the dress that becomes "the one"

The 3rd dress I put on may have been the one... but the more I obsess about it, the more I'm not sure.  Mom and my MOH (SIL) are going to go back to David's in the next couple of weeks so that I can show them both the 1st, and 3rd dress, and maybe two or three more dresses that I may try just to make sure.

I'm a July 2011 bride, so I'm not in a huge rush, but once you start trying on dresses, it's hard to forget about it until you make that final decision to purchase!  I just hope I can get through this week and focus on my job while I am at work!

Haha  - don't be too sure. I am not a cryer at all, and I teared just a little :)  I also agree its so hard to stop obsessing until you make a decision. I think you may not tear up but you'll know when you've found the right dress because you'll feel stunning! Hope your next trip goes well!! I needed my Mom there - and what she did was she didn't say anything at all, and rated my reaction on a scale of 1-10 for every dress I tried on. Then asked me to rate the dresses on a scale of 1-10 on how much I liked them. Then she showed me the paper, and sure enough I tried on the dress that got a 9 and a 10 and I knew it was the one.

Don't  be afraid to go to other stores too, away from your 3 choices that you've already picked out! You may find some good contenders elsewhere, and like you said... you have time!

Funny thing is, I AM a cryer and I didn't cry when I found the dress! I got all super giddy and had a smile about a mile wide across my face.

What dresses did you try on at David's? I tried on some there and really like them.

This was the first dress I tried on:

This is the 3rd dress I tried on:

The 2nd one I tried on was a bust... I mean, it fit fine, I liked it on the hanger... but on me, it was a different story.

I have another one in mind I want to see.  I turned it down yesterday when offered, because I just don't like the split fabric.  But... the split is on the side, not straight down the center of the front, so that makes a difference.  I regret turning down, because now I don't know!

And finally, this one I still want to see:

We are probably still going to make our trip to Bridal Mart sometime this month to see some dresses from Venus Bridals, see if I can get an off-the-rack Allure bridal (can't afford them otherwise) or some of PC Mary's designs.

I know on SYTTD on TLC there seem to be so many brides who just decide right away, and I was hoping that I would at least "know" that the dress I had on would be one, but really the only thing I know about is color, as long as my mom's Belgium Lace matches that designer's white. (she is making my veil from lace she got in Belgium when I was born).

Anyway... I'll post updates as we make decisions!

Oh, yeah -- the bridesmaid dress we picked is here (but in "kelly green"):

    Enjoy! :-)

When I walked out of the dressing room with "the one", my sisters and my mom gasped and then I looked in the mirror at myself.  That was when I knew.  And I did get emotional.  It was a wonderful moment.

Best of luck to you!  It is a fun process and I hope you enjoy it!

Glad you are narrowing it down. I am also a July 2011 bride, but I got my dress in August. It's good to get it somewhat early in case you need alterations, it doesn't come in quickly, etc. Good luck deciding!

rachelea- I am also a crier and didn't cry when I found my dress, but got really happy and smiled from ear to ear. It's such a cool thing!

I didn't get emotional at all.  I am a totally indecisive person when it comes to big decisions.  I tried on like 6 or 7 dresses at David's, and I had narrowed it down to two.  The one that my mom liked best of the two was cheaper, and looked slightly better on me, so I went with that, lol.  I'm glad I did, because now I love it.

Of the 3 you picked, I really like the first one.  I wanted to try it on myself, but I'm a 12 and my consultant told me that a 14W would look really awkward (especially on my size A chest, lol).  I would just go with the one that looks the best on your body shape, with special consideration to the first one because it covers your shoulders (and I remember you saying something about that being a concern).

Oh, and I'm a NOVEMBER 2011 bride, and I've already bought my dress and been to my first fitting.  The day that I'm supposed to pick it up for keeps, is one year to the day before my wedding.  You are NOT too early, haha.

ETA:  That 3rd dress you tried on, did you like it?  I tried that dress on in my size and looked just plain frumpy.  The girl standing next to me (getting married THIS MONTH) was literally half my size, and looked awesome in it and bought it.

Hmmm  Well, only a few short hours later--

After showing pics to my future aunt-in-law and mom, we are going to go back to DB and try on the first one in the bright white color.  When i tried it on, they only had it in ivory, and it just didn't have the shine I was looking for.  I think if I can get another DB to have that dress in white, I may end up falling in love with it.  I was kind of on/off about it when I had it on at the salon yesterday, but now more confident about it.

The 3rd dress (with the satin straps, v-neck) actually was very slimming on me ... after I look back at the pictures, however, I just don't think it's as "bridal" as I want it to feel for that day.  Plus, the veil my mom is making for me is going to be in 100% belgium lace, and she showed it to me today -- it may be a little "too much" for a plain satin dress, even with its roushing (sp?) and side-drape.   (the outfit won't be balanced)

So... we're 95% on getting #1, just need to take the lace with us to the salon, and try it on the bright white color, and everything will be great!  Mom was like "I have to wash the lace!"  Well mom... it's 25 years old, so yeah, probably... :-) She's going to wash it tomorrow, I think.

I know I'm losing weight so I struggle with ordering it to fit me NOW ... the consultant agreed with my suggestion of going down a size because the size she put on me was JUST slightly big around the waist (but perfect around the upper chest).  May just order it in the size I tried on, and if necessary, get tailored in if I'm lucky enough to come down a size.  Even at my size now, I felt really, really beautiful in it.  Just wasn't able to let myself feel beautiful in it until I showed my future in-laws and mom.  :-)

Thanks for the feedback!  I love this board!!! :-D

Usually different DBs carry the same sample in the same color, at least from what I understand.  My dress only had samples in ivory with champaigne.  I had to try on a similar dress in white, and trust that I would like "my" dress in all white.  Luckily, I did!

As for sizes, I ordered my dress in the size I am today, and got a corset back.  It can be tightened or loosened like 1 or 2 inches, so if I lose or gain a few pounds either way, it will still fit.  You can have any dress with any back altered to be a corset back, even if it isn't already.

And I love this board too.  ;-)

I'm glad you're enjoying the process!  It's wonderful that your mom is making your veil.
