Wedding Woes

Sad stuff

One of the guys in the group of twelve or so kids that I was in school with from kindergarten through high school graduation was killed this weekend while cutting down a tree for a neighbor.  I had a crush on him off and on throughout those thirteen years, and he was always nice to me.  I haven't seen him much since high school, but it still makes me very sad for his family.

And then one of the first thoughts I had as soon as I heard was, "At least it was him and not his brother who is married with a family."  And then I got really mad at myself for thinking that.  Childless people are people, too, damnit!

    Aw, I'm sorry.

(and I understand kicking yourself for that thought...but consider it less about value and more about compassion for the wife/kids?
And first gut thoughts are awful.
My older sister--the nicest person in the world, still feels guilty that when great-grandma died, her 12 year old self has the first thought of "damn, who is going to buy us twinkees?")

  • I'm sorry, Zsa.  It's always sad when someone you know dies, but extra sad when it's someone whose life was obviously way too short.
  • I'm sorry Zsa.  :(

That is sad and tragic and clearly unexpected.
  • That is terrible, my sincere condolences. When I lived in Florida a friend of my FI's was crippled cutting a branch off of one of his trees that was slightly growing into his neighbors yard. I wish people would realize that cutting down a tree is something that needs to be handled by professionals.
