Wedding Woes

5 weeks left, I BROKE MY FOOT! :(

I broke my foot (5th metatarsal) last week, with only 5 weeks till my wedding!  I am suppose to leave for my cruise the day after, but am unsure if I should cancel... ( we have insurance, but I don't know when we'd be able to go on the cruise again).

I'm on crutches right now, doing everything to help heal my foot...They will do x-rays the week before my wedding (4 weeks since the break), to see if its healing.  I'm praying that I'll at least be off crutches... but if not, does anyone have any advice on this??

ouch. what do the doctors say, have you done any research on the google to see how long it takes for that kind of fracture to start feeling better (IE, good enough to enjoy a cruise)?

if i were you, i would get some ugly orthopedic shoes for your wedding day, in white or whatever color so your feet don't kill you.

good luck. if anything, tulle up those crutches something tacky. ;)

How bad was the treatment, and what was the break? My mom broke her fifth metatarsal and was useless for a LONG time, like 8 weeks or more, but she had surgery and was in a wheelchair at the beginning, so I am thinking her break was a lot worse than yours.

I think I would make use of that trip insurance and make damn sure I found another time to take the cruise.

Decorate up the crutches and the cast and have fun.  You should be okay for your cruise, but the doctor will know best.

Can you ask about a walking boot? I assume you need the crutches until the four week mark, but if you still need something to keep the healing going, ask about a walking boot, then you can at least walk the day of.

As to the honeymoon, I would say it depends on how you really wanted to spend the cruise. Were you planning on doing tons of on shore activites or just putting your feet up and relaxing? That ould affect my decision.

and yeah, take advantage of that insurance. you walk A LOT A LOT A LOT on cruises. not that you won't enjoy yourself, but you'll enjoy it so much more if you wait a few months.
  • Unless it was some sort of horrific compound fracture rife with infection, don't cancel anything and have fun. I broke a 5th meta years ago. Be warned, it's slow to heal but remodels completely. Once I got a removeable walking boot, I was off crutches, meds and walking blocks within a few days or week. No crutches. I could take the boot off when in bed or lying on the couch and move the foot around snd keep it washed. All the more incentive to figure out some off yr feet activities.
