Epic Theme Fail

So I have a bridal shower on Sunday that's apparently "tapas" themed.

The MOH (and sister of the bride) sends me a FB message asking that all BMs bring a side dish.  I ask what's going to be served so I can have a good idea of what to bring, she tells me: "My mom is getting chicken and cake I'm making ham Serrano, bruscetta, a salad and sangria."

At this point, I realize there is really nothing Spanish about this meal except for maybe the ham and sangria.  Especially since there aren't sides and entrees in tapas.  It's like besides the point.

So I find this Spanish potato salad that has chorizo in it (because potatoes are cheap and I already have tons of chorizo in my fridge) and I'm going to try it out tonight to make sure it's edible.  I email another BM to ask what she's bringing: crockpot cheesy potatoes.

I might as well bring to cans of baked beans and microwave it there.

  • Yeah....pass on the chorizo and make jello salad instead.  Make sure it's the snickers one.

  • I'm kind of expecting sombreros and leis for people to wear.  And maybe a pinata if we're lucky!

the theme is tapas? or spanish? that's a strange theme that i just don't get for potluck.

you could always just bring a cheese and cracker plate. put green pimento olives as garnish to make it look spanishy.

The message said, "We're having a tapas style luncheon."

  • Well, I can see doing "tapas", but not Spanish.  So basically heavy whorederbs for everyone.

But I agree with you.  It's a theme fail.
  • Maybe the plates will be small?
