WTF meter is broken

H's family is WTF filled this weekend.

Found out that SIL (13) was hanging out with friend who's boyfriend would take them to another town (~25 minutes away) to hang out with SIL's boyfriend.

How old is SIL's friend?  13.  How old is friend's bf?  17.  Yes, my WTF meter was all blaring and smoking.

Also, when asked about this, SIL said, "did mom tell you this!?!?".  Um, so your MOM knew? 

Ugh.  It's confirmed that MIL is a farking moron who only (not surprisingly) cares about herself and what she wants.  So really, as long as people stay out of MIL's hair and she can whatever she wants....it's great.

And also, I was all--"I need to talk to SIL about sex".

By the time I was done talking to H, I wanted to turn around and head back to my friend's.  OY.

Well - If I'd dated a 17-y-o when I was 13? I would just have been a freshman dating a senior. 

It doesn't strike me as that huge of a deal.

When I was a freshman, I was dating a senior. And it wasn't a big deal, because I wasn't going to a different town to see him. I was always where someone had a visual on me.

25 minutes is nothing where I grew up... but the 13/17 thing... blech. Then again, 13 year olds now are stacked. They look virtually nothing like children any more.

I didn't look 13 when I was 13 either.  But I also never thought to date or entertain the IDEA of dating at 13.
