Wedding Woes

How are you dealing with your pre wedding stress and jitters?

I'm marrying a cop on April 14th just a mere 48 days away. I was hoping my fiance would help with the stress and nerves but he's even worse than I am! Yesterday he texted me "Cops have a 75% divorce rate!" He texted me because he's working nights this month and I haven't seen him in 3 days even though we moved in together a few months ago. But he's all worked up. I'm a nervous wreck. I'm not having cold feet, I know he is the man for me. But I still have nerves, and jitters. I'm all alone at night. My parents live 11 hours away and are redocorating their house so they can move...and they don't have time to talk to me. So I'm sitting and stewing in my own nerves.

I am sure this isn't uncommon...what are you guys feeling and how do you cope?

  • I'm also marrying a cop.  A mutual (happily married) friend of ours recommended I read "I Love a Cop" and "Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement."   They are great books that help families understand what goes through a cop's mind.  I highly recommend them.  Dealing with night shift is no fun.

Try to enjoy yourselves on his days off.  Don't spend the whole time talking wedding.  Keep yourself busy and hang out with friends.  I find that helps a lot.  Yoga and pilates help me with my "nervous energy" and keep me in shape too.  Laughing  Hope that helps.  It takes a special person to marry law enforcement!

  • I... ah... did not experience anything like this.  It seems odd to me.

This. But also, pink font is *really* hard to read.
  • FutureMrsPaulG: Thanks! I got a copy of I Love a Cop, and have the other book on order. According to Amazon it's very popular, thanks!  I don't spend the few moments I get with him talking. First of all It puts him to sleep (but so does anything else where he gets to sit down for a solid 3 minutes so that might be unfair to say lol).  Secondly his contribution thus far has been the knives he made BY HAND to give to his bestman and groomsmen. Which while impressive hasn't helped me out much.

Regardless of all that, I think it's normal to be worked up with excitement and nervousness. I mean shortly we're standing up in front of a huge crowd for a very intimate moment and pledging our lives to each other..so yeah...stomach churning fun. haha.

The idea of being married doesn't bother me..just the ceremony.

  • Glad that you were able to find those books. I hope you find them helpful. My FI does the same head drop one minute, next minute full on snoring thing too. Not just about wedding stuff. Poorguys and their shift work. Take a few calming deep breaths before the ceremony and remind yourself that once the stomach churning ceremony in front of lots of people is over, then it really becomes all about the start of your fabulous new life together. Huge ceremonies in front of lots of people give me anxiety issues but knowing I have my hubby to holding my hard through it makes it all worth while.

  • Course 'we' are now on day shift again and life is good. Though he is a witness for a murder trial that is taking place a state over. Our wedding is in exactly ONE MONTH and they STILL haven't told him when they need him. So that is interesting. Wedding is coming together. Whew! :)
