Wedding Woes

How much would you pay?

I'm organizing a yard sale for my old lady club and it is scheduled a month from today, so I need to get my tail in gear.  Since we only have four old ladies left, and some of us don't have much in the way of yard sale stuff to sell I had the idea that we make $ by organizing a group yard sale and charge people for our excellent location and assistance.

They will get an indoor, air conditioned, rain or shine location (it will be inside a small community center building), ads in the paper and elsewhere, signage on the street (i.e. guarateed crowd) and no traffic on their lawn/driveway.  They will have one 8 foot table and several feet of floor space around it to set-up.

This isn't a huge place.  I think we'll only have room for 8-9 tables/boothes.

I thought about asking people to give us 10% of their sales.  That way it is no risk to them, but I'm afraid everyone would hand us a dollar at the end of the day and I would be too chicken to call them out.  So I'd rather do an up-front booth fee.  What would you pay for that arrangement?

I said $15, but honestly, I might go as high as $20. With an 8-foot table and all the space behind and under it, I could easily make $200 or more, and I would *love* to not have the sale at my home. The reason we don't do yard sales is that we don't want to have people tramping about our yard and asking to come inside like jerks. Also, it's hot, but no one comes to tag sales in the winter, so I'd pay just for the AC.

My mom's group charges $15 per 8' table.  I've always been anti yard sale for a lot of reasons Bmom said, but I'm paying the $15 next year.

Thanks, ladies.  I think I'm going to go with $12.  There isn't much of a mental difference between paying $10 and $12, right?  Maybe if it becomes an annual thing we can start charging a little more.

I'm late on this - but make it a "round" number so people (and you) don't have to make change when they pay their fee.

    I would do $10 or $15.  $12 is a PITA.
