The robbery at the Chase Bank branch office at 4650 Mission Bay Drive was reported at 9:12 a.m., according to San Diego police. The gunman was armed with a long-barreled weapon, possibly a rifle or shotgun, SDPD Det. Gary Hassen said. Before fleeing the bank, the gunman forced employees into a cash vault, he said, adding that no one was hurt. A witness saw the robber as he was fleeing attempt to stuff the loot in his pant's pockets, at which time a dye pack exploded, covering the man in red ink, according to Hassen. Police described him as black, 5 feet 9 to 6 foot tall, with a thin build. He also reportedly wore a black and green jacket, light-colored jeans and a black baseball cap.
