Tuxes or suits?

So FI and the GMs have/are getting tuxes.  We were thinking of having the dads and ushers in black suits.  Would that be wierd?  As far as I can tell the only difference between tuxes and suits is the lapel (?) in some cases and the stripe along the pant legs are shiny satin.

I asked my FI the same thing, and he said (in his opinion, and in our wedding, apparently), the dads should wear suits and the GM should wear tuxes.  It's all about preference, I guess, but I'm sure it won't look weird at all! I kinda like the idea of the dads standing out in a good way :)

I am going more casual than that. My dad and FI are wearing suits, but the ushers and male attendants are wearing suit pants/button down shirts and ties only, no jackets.

I was debating doing that with our ushers as well...

Yeah, I think its fine for the ushers to be a little more casual than the GM.

I think it is fine too. The only reason we put the dads in tuxes was because my dad CANNOT dress himself for the life of him, so renting a tux was just easier.

LOL Kare! My dad is pretty similar, but I'll be pulling everything out ahead of time for him to wear. He's good at putting on what you tell him.

I would say that's fine, Tygirl.

FI and I are having our dads in tuxs as well. The ushers just wear what suit they have. They all will have a boutinnierre (I hate spelling that word!!!) to tell they're in the WP so that makes me happy!

II think you're fine either way.  For me, it's only my dad and he will be wearing a tux.  A tux works for him because he doesn't wear suits anymore and it would have been more expensive for him to buy a black suit than to rent a tux and he'd never wear it again.  My dad wore khakis to my sister's wedding and he was in heaven!!  Her 2nd wedding was a little more informal, though, and it worked.  He's fine with the tux as long as he can wear his black sneakers!  As long as he's comfortable, I'm happy!!

My grandfather, however, owns a black suit so he will be wearing that.  Not that it matters what my grandfather wears so much, but fyi.

We're having FI and the GM in black tuxes, and then our dads in suits. My dad got a new gray suit, and I'm not sure what FFIL will be wearing. We don't have ushers, so I'm no help there. And we are all hoping my grandpa will not wear his powder blue sport coat, but at this point I'm not sure I even care anymore! :)

And everyone has boutonnieres, so it should be clear who is who. Hope that helps!
