We are going to a wedding in six weeks. The ceremony starts at 5:00 at a church, reception to follow at a hotel.

It is in Lousianna. So, it's going to be warm and humid.

I have a dress that I wear for day weddings and a 'little black dress' that I wear for more formal weddings, but I don't think either is right for this event.

Would you go over dressed or buy a new dress? I could probably get away with the day dress, given that most people are going to be under dressed, but I don't roll like that. I don't want to spend the money, but I also don't want to be uncomfortable. Gr...

5pm with a reception afterward is an evening wedding, I think, and appropriate for cocktail attire.

I think the black dress will be fine. I tend to always overdress, though.

I agree with kuus- 5 pm and hotel reception is dressy.  Unless it's a floor length ball gown it should be fine.

Yeah...I am going to send SIL a pic of my black dress and see what she thinks. I'm sure we'll be sitting together, so as long as we're dressed similarly, I'll be comfortable.

your LBD is probably fine - you could dress it down with shoes /accessories if you think it's too much.

You can dress down the LBD.  Describe the day dress.  Is it covered with strawberries and rainbows or why can't it translate to a less-dressy evening?
