I'm sorry. A grown woman called you a hoebag? Via drunken voicemail?

Ooookay. Your FI needs to give his mom (as the ladies on this board say) a ho sit down card. In other words, he needs to tell her, even if nicely, that she needs to calm down and act like a grownup OR she can say goodbye to her son now, and consequently her daughter-in-law and any children the two of you may have. He needs to handle this, not you or your Mom.

Her calling you a hoebag is funny -- for exactly 1 second.

This is really inappropriate. What does your FI say about this? He needs to have a SERIOUS discussion with his mother. And as BC said, she needs to either calm down and act like an adult, or say goodbye to her son, you, etc.

Oh, come on. It's never appropriate for a MIL to call her DIL a ho-bag. I mean, yeah, I'm a total whore, but it wasn't my MIL's place to call me that, was it?

Your Fi needs to handle this, OP. I'll admit, you don't sound exactly blameless in these situations, but it's his mother, it's his problem. Disengage. Stop taking her calls, stop discussing things with her.

Why does your FI owe her $100?  Why doesn't he just pay it along with giving her a recomendation for a therapist?

Give the 100 dollars directly to the therapist. Then tell her to go get her money's worth.

    She wasn't drunk either, surprisingly.
