Wedding Woes

Our venue for our 9/24 wedding took $19,000 and then went out of business... won't return our $$$!

We are supposed to be getting married 9/24/11 - we paid in full $19,000 3 weeks ago, and found out last week that our venue is going out of business, ceased operations, and has no plans to give us our money back... Our invitations went out.  Plus, it was all-inclusive - our ceremony with officiant AND reception site, our lve band, our caterer, and even our wedding cake.  I do not know what to do.  We have been interviewed by local media and are hoping someone will save us - our wedding is 8 weeks away!  If ANYONE out there knows David Tutera or something, please contact me ! brettannecondon@gmail.com

Yikes. If they have officially filed bankruptcy, you may be out of luck.

But even if you DO get your money back, it will probably take a looooong time and require legal intervention.

I hope the local coverage you're getting will get some vendors to donate their services.

This totally sucks, but try to keep things in perspective. Your child wasn't killed by a Norweigan gunman. And, at the end of the day, you'll still be married to the man of your dreams, right? Probably not with all of the "stuff" you wanted, but worst-case, you can pay a JOP $100 and make it a potluck reception. Which can be fun in its own way, even if it's not what you envisioned.

    Good luck.

I am so sorry!  I can't imagine getting that news.  I do hope the owners are beyond embarrassed and crucified in the media.  They knew what they were doing when they took the money.

In the end, you are going to have to focus on being married to your FI.  I have a hunch you are going to see some amazing things from friends and family.  Things like this can bring out the best in others.  Good luck.

For $19K, I'd hire an attorney to file a lawsuit.

If they did file bankruptcy, you should be listed as a creditor and you should receive a notice in the mail to file your claim against them.  But, that's assuming there's any assets to the business that can be sold for $ and it all has to be divied up, but it's still worth a shot.

Is your venue the School House in San Marcos? I have heard about this! TERRIBLE! There must be something you and other brides can do to get some kind of money back. I know you aren't alone in this. I'm so sorry!!!!!

GREAT NEWS.  The Camden Aquarium has stepped in and is saving our wedding.  They are giving us everything we had paid for for free :)  There are great people out there who help out when things look terrible!
