grammar question for bored grammarians (who probably won't answer until monday)

If I"m talking about state legislative people, generically, capitlization or no?

"blah bla blah, baked cookies for Senators and staff" or "baked cookies for senators and staff"

I'm getting differing oppinioins from my handbooks and the interwebz.

    Job and occupation titles are not capitalized.

    It would be "baked cookies for senators and staff"  You would only capitalize if you refer to them by name specifically such as "we baked cookies for Senator Smith and his staff"

    The other posters are right. It's a generic job title. You wouldn't say you made cookies for "Waitresses and Managers".

    That's what I was leaning toward, but the Mr. had me doubting myself.  And the 'examples' in my style books were to vauge.
