Wedding Woes

I got a tacky shower invite too

The invite itself was a little meh, the hostess printed the info off and glued it inside a card.  The big side-eye...it's a potluck.

(did I mention it's also the third wedding for the bride?)

I don't get it though - if the shower is a gift from a friend that you shouldn't be sticking your nose in, when is it okay to tell the person hosting the shower, "thanks, but no thanks"

It's okay to say no thanks when you know it's tacky.

I suppose - and while I agree it's tacky to have a gift shower for a third wedding if it were my best friend getting married for the second time I would be trying to throw her a shower. If not a gift shower then a "bridal" shower with all the games and ridiculousness.

To be honest, the potluck is the tackier part to me.  I love SIL and would go and take a gift and food, but it's a 4 hr drive one way and 2 wks before delivery.

My mom offered to throw me a shower, and I told her no, it would be tacky. I don't think there's anything wrong with declining a shower. I wish MIL had given me the chance when she threw me a baby gift-grab.

My gift at this shower would be a rolodex to help her keep all of her ex-husbands and in-laws straight.

I don't know, I kinda have to agree with 6 on this, "Hey we are throwing a shower so bring a gift, oh and by the way, bring the food too."

    I don't know if I would attend a shower for a bride-for-the-second-or-third-time.

Meh. I had a shower for my second marriage. Then again nobody was forced to bring food or gifts (though people brought gifts, and they were awesome.)

BC - I think it is different if you first wedding wasn't much of a wedding.  Did you even have a shower before?

No, my second wedding was the cause for my first bridal shower. There was no shower or bachelor/ette party or reception. Just JOP, guy showing up with a shotgun (yes, a shotgun - in front of a magistrate, in the national forest, where it is illegal to have weapons) then back to the house for a quick kick in the ego, off to pick up some food for a bigger kick to the ego, and a night spent crying in my bedroom alone. Ahh, memories!

I still felt guilty having a shower. You people are so cruel!
