Wedding Woes

My dress was ruined - I need some advice

The seamstress at the dress shop unintentionally ruined my wedding dress during alterations...and by ruined I mean cut material out of the dress, sewed puckering into the entire dress...and "fixed" it so much that it doesn't fit right anymore.  I took my gown to another tailor who is a known miracle worker...he said he and his team will do everything they can to fix the dress but I won't be able to see the dress until I get back in town on April 6th...which is only 23 days before the nuptials.
Should I get a back up dress just in case?  I am at the top of my budget and am not sure where I should go if I decide to get a back up.  Any thoughts???  I would appreciate the advice!

  • 23 days before the wedding is plenty of time. PLENTY. You don't need a "back up dress".

    ..
  • Don't worry about a back up dress yet. 23 days is more than enough time to find something else and have it altered. But do let the bad seamstress know that if you require a new dress, she'll be paying for it.
  • Sorry your dress was ruined. That sucks, truly. Hopefully miracle worker can fix it, but also you may want to send the bill to the first seamstress who ruined it. Did they apologize or anything?

  • First of all, that totally sucks about the dress. Even with the time you have, I'd still have a small panic attack if it were me.

But I think 23 days is fine. You'll have it back and still have time for any additional fittings. However, I would definitely send the bill to the original seamstress. Messing it up that bad is unforgiveable. Did she even apoligize, or did she act like it wasn't her fault and she did nothing wrong?
  • i got my dress back from the seamstress a week before the wedding and I lived. I'm with the others, send the bill from the miracle workers to the original seamstress, along with the bill for a replacement dress and rush shipping if it comes down to it.
  • also, there's something a little off about the OP - were you hoping that she'd ruin the original dress just so you could go get a new one?

This and bad seamstress should pay for your bill from Miracle Worker.
