Wedding Woes

Neighborhood Drama

I have old people on either side of me, and you've heard about my neighbors to the right who wanted me to turn off the AC because the noise was deafening.

Last Friday night, when Baby A and I came home, it was around 9PM and I saw a cop car in front of my neighbor on the left's house. She is an old lady in the early stages of dementia. A man in his 40's was living with her and taking care of her and the house up until about 2 months ago, when he had some altercation with the old lady's daughter and moved out. Now she's on her own.

According to the neighbor across the street, the old lady does indeed have dementia and the cop was there to "check on her". When I got home with Baby A from the store this morning, the cop was there again.

Re: Neighborhood Drama

  • It could be that she's calling them. I know my grandmother always thought that people were stealing her stuff. This was the first sign that she wasn't well.

  • That's really sad.  I hope she's alright.

Honestly, I worry about my old person future.  Even if I saved all the money in the world, I don't have any siblings and once my parents/DH are gone, what if I lose my mind and can't take care of myself?

Okay, that's super depressing for Friday, Varuna.

That is sad.  I do agree with Nola that should could think people are stealing.  That was one of the first signs with sMIL.

  • The dementia is just so horrible to watch.  GiGi (short for great grandmother) regularly thinks the nursing home staff is stealing money and her dentures (even when she had them in her mouth one day).  We had to take her TV back, b/c she thought other people were watching it when she wasn't in her room.

The worst was when her underwear kept disappearing and the staff finally figured out she was flushing it, b/c her toilet backed up.

They're things that are so bizarre and you just can't understand at all.  It's heartbreaking and very sad.
  • It is sad. She is very nice from the few times I've met her. It may indeed be that she's calling them. From what the neighbor said, she should not be living alone.

I'm not sure who he was - I don't think it was family. He was about 40 and he was gay. Extremely nice, and he and DH took turns clipping back the trees and bushes that bordered our property. He did a ton of work on the house as well.

Posted by VarunaTT Bizarre is an understatement. My gma did both, figured everyone was a crook, to actually thinking that honesttogod crooks that did swindle her were there to help and save her. Although I think the latter is far more driven out of fear of the current living situation and savvy predators. I think the worst was having to hospitalize her for dehydration and malnutrition for about a week or two...and found out there was a bucket of untouched and spoiling KFC on the countertop. Neighbor brought it for gma 4 to 5 days prior.

  • She could also become dangerous, several years ago when she was still living in her own house my grandmother took her gun and shot at the neighbors house because their dog wouldn't quit barking, (they didn't have a dog).  But it finally made my grandfather hide the bullets, he still wouldn't get rid of the guns though. If her daughter ran off the helper then she needs to step up before something bad happens!
