a questions about storing my china

Right now it is in a cardboard box in the storage closet off the deck.

I discovered a huge mold problem in there last weekend when H was here. This means I am going to have to get everything out of there, so the apt people can cut out that drywall and do whatever else.

This provides me with an opportunity to put the china (and punch bowl and other stuff) into a more permanent storage solution. Cardboard is not a permanent solution, as it will begin to crumble out there.

I've moved some stuff around in the office so it can live in there once it is put away in whatever container is best for this.

So, any ideas or suggestions? I'm probably just going to end up at the Container Store.

NOLA, want to help me and then we can go eat?

Re: a questions about storing my china

  • i have no real suggestions, but right now my china is in those china protective soft cases you can find in BBB, and then i put those cases in storage bins loaded with packing peanits. i got the packing peanuts from old deliveries. storage bins from kmart. they are stackable.
  • I have no suggestions. My china is in a kitchen cabinet collecting dust. I need to go through it and see what else I need, because I know it I don't have a full set.

I need to go to this Container Store. The nearest one is about 25 miles from me (and a 30+ minute drive) so I've never gone but my Mom was going on and on about it the other day.
  • PMeg - the Container Store is the motherland. Like, you know that movie where the people spent the night in Target? If we did that, we would do so in the Container Store. It is the solution to ALL of your first world problems.

I don't have an storage space in the kitchen. My dream is to get a midmod dining set with a china cabinet. But that is a long way off, so I need to keep this protected in the mean time.

  • you can just put the china in the soft protectors then, which take up little space. i put paper towels around each plate/cup/whatever for extra proteciton because i'm not sure when i'll take the stuff out of storage.
  • Zilla - right now it is in one of the UHaul special boxes with the dividers and such. The solution might just be to move everything into a big plastic storage bin. Or, just move the carboard one inside. As long as I don't stack anything on it, and it's inside, that might be the solution. However, if I have to look at a cardboard box everyday, I might cut someone.

  • China savers. Mine's in the linen closet, but eventually we'll get a china hutch and I can display it.

    That's all I got.
