dance floor

Do think we need one with a outdoor reception? I would really like one. I think it looks better and feel people will be more likely to dance if there is one. But they are SOOO expencive to rent another $300 or so. So do you all have anyideas of making one? How big should it be?

I think it would be better - as you stated it will encourage people to dance and make them more comfortable doing so.  Not to mention, if the dance area is grass, I hate dancing in grass in heels of any sort. As for how much try this spreadsheet: http://www.midwaypartyrental.com/images/products/How_much_dance_floor_do_I_need.pdf

Our reception is outdoors too, and we're renting one. I think it'll be easier for people to dance, given that the area is all grass. We're renting a 12x12 one, and have about 150 guests (hopefully no more than that!!!). It's $288 from Grand Events before any discounts, and then we also got a 20% discount with them.

i'm bad and i'd seriously call around ask for quotes and then play between two places so you can get something like 25% off. Thats what I ended up getting! I think a dance floor would be really nice for outdoors!

It depends if its all grass or if there's a cement area or deck.  If there's a hard surface, you don't need a dance floor.  If its grass, you do.  But, if you can afford it, I agree it'd be better and probably encourage dancing.
