When do you think they should get engaged? After your wedding? It's selfish to think of it as stealing your thunder. Her boyfriend has a right to ask her to marry him whenever he wants. Be happy for her and take this as an opportunity to plan your weddings together.

[QUOTE]My fiance and I got engaged three months ago. I asked sister to be my MOH, and so far she has been more than helpful. However, her boyfriend is proposing to her this week...am I wrong to feel that I am getting pushed aside here? I understand that she is 4 years older than me...but her brother and I have been together for 6 years!! Her soon-to-be fiance and herself stared dating in November!! I love her and want the best for her...but I want MY time.

Its post like this that make me happy to be a WW lurker (and occasionaly poster).

If she decided to get married on the same day as you, then you get to be upset, other than that, you get ONE day.

Also - did someone give you the impression that you owned the entire time you were engaged? Oh sweetie - they lied to you.

I got engaged the month before my sister's wedding (the horror!!) and trust me, on her wedding day and it was all about her. I can count on my hand how many people asked me about it that day.

Thunderjackers are on the loose, thunderjackers are on the loose!!

They must be stopped!  This is YOUR TIME!  Your romantical engagement period!  How could anyone take that from YOU?

And OMG, what if they get married and then have a baby before you?!

Yes, I think you need to sit them down and have a conversation.  Then please, come back and tell us how it went.

Do you think she's gonna...Imma let you finish...pull a Kayne at the wedding?

If not, nope, you shouldn't be upset.
But since you're obviously upset, for heavens sake, quash that down inside, recognize it as unreasonable jealousy, and don't tell anyone you're upset.

Aside from the ridiculous thunderjacking charge, did anyone catch the delightfully sexist ageism? "I understand that she is 4 years older than me..."

My God! She could be an old maid at any second! You should totally encourage her wedding before yours - you don't want her to end up on the shelf, after all, and for her brother to have to provide for her for the rest of her life! Get her married off and you'll have your household to yourself!

Personally I am all about MY attention and don’t like sharing the spotlight for anything, but in this situation you can’t take it as a personal jab that her BF found his soulmate and wants to show his love for her.  You should be happy for her and take this opportunity to brain storm together on wedding planning.  I would love to have a friend around that is just as excited about getting married as I am.

My younger sister did this to me. I mean, I'm 4 years older than her and she's already getting married for the second time. I totally know how you feel, I've been with my BF for three years (this weekend!) and she's only been dating the guy for two. I'm older, I should get married first. It's only fair. But now I can't even GET engaged because she's claimed this ENTIRE year as her engagement period and NO ONE ELSE can be engaged during the same time frame. She's a thunderjacker that one.

Shoot, you better notify all of the 2011 month boards as well as the Royal Family that their thunder-jacking will not be tolerated.  While you are at it, you should also make sure that your entire wedding party is on birth control, because the last thing you need for your Special Year is some attention-seeking knocked-up broad trying to STEAL your spotlight.

Seriously - you need to drop the "it's all about me" attitude and be happy for your FSIL, or you're going to cause some animosity within the family - and that's the last thing you want to do right before joining that family.  As long as she isn't planning on getting married on the same day as you, I think you're going to be okay.  People have enough room in their hearts to be happy and excited for BOTH of you.

Actually, people did put it in  my head that it should be my time. I didn't feel this way until others used phrases such as "stealing thunder". I didn't mean for people to get all huffy puffy...it's just a message board. And since I'm young, I thought this would be a good place to get advice. (Which from some posters I appreciate your maturity and words of wisdom!!) So, no need for pictures or rude comments, or "internet slang" which flies past me (arb? ded?). I am not a selfish person, I guess I was just wondering if I should harbor these inside feelings. Thank you though:)

You can feel however you'd like, but realize that it is self-centered and move on.

I don't think she's stealing your thunder.  For one thing she didn't plan when to get engaged, her soon to be fiance did. At my first wedding my cousin and his fiance actually announce their engagement at my reception and I could have cared less.  If she picks the same wedding date as you then i think you would have a legit issue.
