s/o flat-ironing hair

Recommend yours, pls.

Looking to experiment with curling my hair with it as opposed to my regular curling iron.  Not looking to spend a fortune on one just yet, not sure if I will like the result.

Re: s/o flat-ironing hair

  • Folica always has good sales.

I just have a regular Solia...not fancy like a chi or ghd, but still really good. I curl with it sometimes.  You just need one that will get hot and has rounder edges.

  • I have a Chi that I about about 7 years ago from BBB. I never thought I would spend so much on a flat iron, but it works so well, heats up fast and has rounded edges.

  • I also have the CHI, it works great! I have thick curly hair and it works wonders on it.
  • I got one at Target. It was like $20, and it has a pretty pattern that goes with my hair dryer. Maybe Conair? Maybe Remington? One of those drugstore brands, at any rate, and I love it. Heats fast, not bulky, not heavy.

But I have super-fine, almost straight already hair.

My stylist says CHI for sure, and to get one with a warranty. She says hers always die right at about 20 months, and she's had one replacement after another for several years now because of that.

I use the "remington wet 2 straight." $30, I think, from BBB. I definitely have to turn it on the highest setting, and it certainly doesn't go from "wet 2 straight." But as a standard flat-iron, I think it's fine. At least, I'm not rushing out to replace it.

I know you said you were using it for curling, but for straightening, I *highly* recommend a flat-iron comb, like this:

(They are cheaper elsewhere - look around.)  My hair still doesn't look salon-straightened after I use it, but it's immensely better than my straightening attempts without it.

I had a Folica that I loved but I burned it up in Australia.  It was $100.

I now use a Remington that was $20 in a Target in Australia.  It is almost 3.5 years old and it works perfectly (thougth I have to use the universal adapter every time I straighten my hair).
  • Ditto Bmom and Taw on the Remington recommendation.  However, my hair is straight as hell naturally.
