Flight attendant on a SW flight from Texas to Albuquerque sees mother slap a 14-month-old baby across the face. FA takes the baby away, notices a black eye, and calls ahead to the police in ABQ. Mother admits she "popped" the kid when it kicked her. Police give the baby back and send the family on their way.
My thread title's funny, but I think the stew was right, and I think the police were wrong to give the kid back. Casually admitting that you'd "pop" a toddler does not, IMO, bespeak an isolated incidence of violence. Also, the kid is ONE. I spank, and I didn't spank Bacon when she was one. She didn't get it. It wasn't appropriate - and that was calm, controlled spanking, not slapping her across the face.
The parents also claimed the black eye was from a dog bite. What? That doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm willing to think that's because I know sht about dog bites.
