Wedding Woes

dress shopping

'cause it's fun!

I did look at Macy's online, but those were mostly in the $300 range.  I just don't have that many events to go to.  I was thinking $50 and might go as high as $80 or something if it's awesome.  I am hoping to wear these awesome shoes, but if what I get wont' work with it, that's cool, too.

Shoes:

(when I just dug up this pic, they were selling for $89. I got them for $15 at DSW back in February. Awesome!)

Anyway, some dresses at JCP:

And I really love this one:

Ordinarily I'd never consider something so body-hugging, but one of the reviews was from someone who claims to be a size 16 and says she looks fab in it, so it might be worth trying on. I could find some strappy silver heels to go with it.

Other ideas/thoughts?

I actually REALLY like the last one. It reminds me of a Herve Leger. I think it would look fabulous on you.

I like the fourth one you listed, but that is because that is what looks flattering on me. I don't like fitted skirts on me. However, they might be just the thing for you.

Like everyone said, try on everything. Also, finding a dress is usually really difficult for me, so I would not rule out seperates.

IMO, if you're that self conscious about your shape, those dresses with horizontal lines and seams are just going to make you feel wider.

Do you have a traditional mall to go to?  And what size are we talking here - I'm assuming nothing plus sized.

American Living had an almost exact version of that last season, except it was a V-neck.  I bought it and LOVE it and I'm a size 16/18.  The only reason I would hesitate is I wore it for our anniversary dinner.  I think it's a bit sexy for a work occasion.

I like the halter top for a work fundraiser.

The first or the last, esp. if you want to wear those shoes (which I LOVE).

    I like 1, 2 and 4. 3 is pretty, but I'm anti-taffetta.

And that last one is going to be elastic tight. I tried on something similar recently and it's completely unforgiving. I'm pretty sure it only looks good after a professional photoshop job.

1 is probably my favorite. And I love the shoes.

DG, this is the one I bought like that last one.  I don't know the logistics of how it works, but I can attest (and DH will too), that it emphasizes all the right things and downplays all the wrong.  Looks like the one reviewer thought so too.

My only complaint with it is you THINK you can wear a normal bra, but I couldn't.  I had to buy a demi-cup b/c it's lower cut than it looks.  Just wear a regular bra and check if you like it.  If you have a body smoother, I do recommend it b/c I did find I could start to feel the seams in the back of my legs after a couple of hours of sitting.

    ETA:  Links help, eh?

I personally like that halter, but the last one is lovely, if it does as promised and highlights the good stuff, I say go for it.

I'll try on everything, for sure.  I do have a traditional mall to go to.  But I have that kid issue to deal with. I worked late on M/T/W this week, and DH was pretty sick last night, so I had both kids and was NOT taking them dress shopping with me. (<-- see? I'm not that mom!)

Hoping to swing by tonight, if only to grab a bunch of things to try on after the boys are asleep tonight.  I will also have a couple of hours of shopportunity tomorrow afternoon.  I am getting my hair did at 2:00 (just shampoo & style, no updo), and we don't have to leave until about 5:45 or 6.  That's cutting it a little close, though.

Anyway, yes, I live in the retail capital of the suburbs - I could walk to the mall if I had to.  Plus TJ Maxx, marshall's, kohls, dress barn, talbots, chicos, j. jill.  I should be able to find *something*

Size-wise, we're probably talking 14. Depending on the cut/fit, it might be 12 or it might be 16.

I'm also open to investigating spanx-like garments.  I have one, but it's 16/18, and I don't think it's quite snug enough to do its job.

ooh - like that one, Varuna!

And yeah. I have about 24 hours. Even if I wanted to order online, I don't have time.

I'd never been in Dress Barn until this summer.  I was surprised at how many dresses I found to try on and ended up buying 2.
