Let's talk about caulk

Has anyone ever re-caulked their bathtub?  Ours needs it bad and it seems like something that I should be able to do, but it is probably also more difficult than it looks.

DH has major issues with caulking and I don't know why.  If you have a steady hand it's pretty easy.  Just follow the instructions, make sure things are clean and dry, and make sure you give it time to dry.

Yes.  It's easy, and very satisfying to peel off the old stuff.

Ok, good!  Now, can I paint my bathroom ceiling with the same paint and color as the walls or is that something only terrible, no good, very bad people do?

I think that would make the room seem smaller than it is.

Min - It would all be offwhite, not teal or something.  Right now the walls are offwhite and the ceiling is white.

not that difficult.
I reccomend removing calk
putting masking tape where it shouldn't be
calk (keep wet rag handy to wipe things w/)
peel up tape

Wasn't it very briefly trendy to paint your ceiling the same color as your walls? I feel bad for the people that went with that regrettable fad.

At least paint is easy to fix. I do like it when large rooms have recessed cielings and some of it is painted.

yes, peeling caulk is tres satisfying.  be sure to fill the tub with water before re-caulking.

btw, i like talking about caulk irl (say it out loud).

Why do you fill the tub with water?

Black vs white depends on the color of the tub.  They do also make other colors and clear though.

you fill the tub to add weight.  it makes a tighter seal.  i swear, i am not trying to make this dirty.

I'll be darned.  Maybe that's DH's problem.  He's caulked our tub twice in two years and it needs to be done again.  I caulked the other two tubs and they look great.
