Wedding Woes

Engagement Ring NIGHTMARE!

Kinda long, sorry. Question at the end- I need some serious ADVICE!

My FI and I purchased my ring with the lifetime warranty from Gordon's jewlers back in 2006. In 2010, I lost a diamond and brought it in to have it replaced. That's where my #1 wedding nightmare began!

I had my ring sent off to have the diamond replaced and when it returned to me- they had changed the set and added in extra posts to hold a smaller diamond in! Outraged, I told the sales associate that the ring was wrong and she proceeded to inform me that I was lying and that the ring was in the correct order. I insisted that the ring was incorrect and that it needed to be sent back out for the correct repair. After being cursed at and spat on by the sales associate, I marched out with my ring and contacted the Gordon's HQ in Texas.

Brought the ring to a different Gordon's location and it has been "fixed" OVER 10 TIMES!  Each time, it comes back looking worse than the first.

They finally agreed to replace the ring, but cannot find the correct ring since it was purchased so long ago. I have only found one other ring that I even would consider taking in place of my ring, but would probably have to give up the now broken ring I've been wearing for 5 years!

What's a bride to do? My wedding is in 38 days!!! I don't have time to play games with this company anymore. Much advice is needed!

Thanks girls!

    you have 2 options:
    1) wear old broken ring
    2) get replacement ring - ask for upgrade as compensation for trouble (or push for money back and then some and go elsewhere)

i don't understand what the big deal is - any good jeweler should be able to duplicate the setting. stuff from gordon's is fairly standard.

It can be duplicated, but it's the time and money. They don't want to pay for it to be fixed properly and my personal jeweler (not Gordon's) has looked at the ring and said I would constantly be losing diamonds in this set because of what they have done to it. I lost a diamond Monday, actually.

Go with a new ring, if the setting is bad enough you are loosing diamonds more frequently, I would just reset the diamonds you do have and go forward from there.

This. And if you are not confident with Gordon's, push for money back like PP stated and have it made somewhere else.

My custom took just 4 weeks to be made, I know it's cutting it close, but you should have time.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you... I can imagine what the stress is doing to you...

I would demand my money back regardless!! They wouldn't get another opportunity to hurt me again... and I would write a long letter to the BBB or a formal letter to the HQ. The story is rediclous and far more that you should be willing to take..in this economy, someone else will be dying for your business...

    Outta my head.

Get a new ring.  Even if you don't have it in 38 days at least you will have a good ring and a wedding.  Look at the person cancelling because of the hurricane.  That's a nightmare.

    Ditto MNNE and 6.

You're making this way too dramatic.  Get a new ring and be done with it.

Putting up with spitting AND you didn't learn your lesson in the first 5 or 8 times it was sent back?  Come on, you love the drama don't you?  No one in their right mind puts up with that.

You have a personal jeweler and went to a crappy chain anyway?

    Okay.

What a nasty sales associate!  I'm also rather horrified by the company.  This just sounds like a real bummer of a situation:(.

Most settings, warranties, and certified diamonds come with paperwork upon purchase (probably given to your fiance initially). I would be sure to provide them with copies those papers to ensure that you get equitable diamond size and quality for your replacement.

You purchased a ring and a lifetime warranty.  That means that, come hell or high water, you get to enjoy the same product your fiance slipped on your pretty little finger the very day he proposed, even if they have to re-make it.  You bite, scratch and INSIST on speaking with higher and higher levels of management to ensure this is done by your wedding date.  If it is not, report them to the BBB and haul their behinds to court.  It likely won't come to this, as your satisfaction is also beneficial to them.  Just don't bother yourself with those icky underlings at the counter.  It's time to get a manager, or, better yet, the owner.

Best of luck to you, lady:)
