Wedding Woes

I just made a complete arse of myself on Re.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Eh, you're fine.  I'm getting the impression that over there, anyone who doesn't love everything the Obamas do must be misinformed or hasn't thought things out completely.

Don't worry, Kuus, I'll be back. I just actually have to work for a little bit.

    ButterCookie, thanks. I had a feeling... :)

Man, I'm farking nosy and want to know what all the hub bub is about.  I think when people say "OBAMACARE" they immediately raise hackles and you're on the losing end of a battle.  Of course this depends on the audience.

Harrumph.  Now I feel like I've missed out on something really profound from BC.

BC is probably just passing on healthcare plan info, since that's what she does for a living.

Also, reading threads like that really makes me appreciate you guys. I know y'all are mostly liberals, but I never feel like I'm being shouted down over here. I feel like if I bring up a dissenting opinion and can back it up (and can't I always?), you'll at least listen to it and have a civil, intelligent debate about it.

I don't see that on other boards - yet another reason I stay here.

See, BM, I agree with you most often, but I don't have the facts to back it up and I'm not going to spout things anymore (I try not to) without having backup.  So I just keep quiet.

Ugh.  This is becoming the global warming debate all over again.  People get really attached to "facts that everyone knows" that data don't support.

Oh, and I like that their whole argument is "Everyone KNOWS fat is bad! Duh!" but dissenters are expected to pull peer-reviewed studies out their ass to prove that conventional wisdom might not be exactly the best thing to rely on.

I can also guarantee you they think headless fatty pics = all obese people. I am a deathfat, and I fit in movie theatre seats, airplane seats, cars, most restaurant booths, etc., etc. You could probably lop off my head and make an example of me, but really, I don't think my body's shocking enough. I've never had a stranger IRL heckle or concern-troll me, even.

No one, even in the FA community, thinks HAES is a bad idea. No one thinks eating well and exercising are bad ideas. But wellness iniaitives never focus on HAES-type language. They always, always, always focus on fat as the problem, and fat people as morally bankrupt. Focusing that kind of rhetoric on adults is one thing - shameful enough - but focusing it on children is unconscionable.
