I had to put a kid into a reading tutoring class and he was not happy. After five minutes too many of me explaining why this is a good idea in the long run things took a turn.
Mr. Attitude: "I don't want to get out of gym."
Me: "I understand, but this will help you pass the test and go on to HS.
Mr. Attitude: "But, I don't want it."
Me: "Trust me, it's a good thing in the big picture."
Mr. Attitude: "I'm not going to go."
Me: "Ok."
Mr. Attitude: "I mean it."
Me: "Do what you need to do."
Mr. Attitude: "I'm going to skip."
Me: "You do realize I don't have to pay your truancy fine, right?
Mr. Attitude balls up new schedule and storms out in a huff.
Yes, there was laughing on my part when he left. I guess he showed me.
