Wedding Woes

This family is ridiculous

I just opened the fifth gallon of milk since Sunday.  Do you know we spend close to $20 PER WEEK on milk?

I must admit, I do drink more milk than the normal person, but we go through so.much.milk.

Re: This family is ridiculous

  • I don't like milk, which will probably mean my kids won't.  I hope.

  • My mom hates milk with a passion and look at me now.

  • I hate milk too.  We only have one drinker, but he can go through it.  Even the non-organic crap is almost $4 a gallon here.  It's $2.50 at Sam's.

  • I think we go through 3 gallons/week. Some of it gets tossed because of sippy cups left out too long, but really, they drink a lot of milk. And we eat our fair share of cereal.

I can not imagine what our grocery bills will look like with 2 teenaged boys. Especially given how much grocrery costs will go up in the next 10 years.

For real.  We have one pre-teen right now and it's crazy how much this kid eats.  I weep for your future grocery budget.
  • NOoooo don't tell me that.  My brother and his family can easily go through 6 gallons of milk a week.

Well, I'm one of four.  My siblings like milk but don't drink as much as me.

  • It was one of the first things I thought of when we found out Des was a boy. I was like "omg. the grocery bills in 2022!"

I will say that milk can be awesome. I drank a TON as a kid - like, I had my own gallon and the rest of the family shared another gallon. The periodontist actually said, "those roots are beautiful!" Lots of milk - /> good teeth. Well, strong teeth, anyway. Still crooked as hell.

  • dh and i split about a half gallon a week.  baby mo alone goes through at least a half gallon at home -- and he gets most of his milk from daycare.  so just the "topping off" he gets at home and all the milk he gets on weekends is more than a half gallon.

how does he only weigh 25 pounds?

  • this makes me happy that I'm still supplementing Wolverine with breast milk - we go through less than a half gallon per week for her at home. DK and I go through anything from a half gallon to a gallon every 2 weeks - depends on how much i'm cooking and how often he eats cereal.
  • DD drinks a gallon of milk a week on her own.  And that doesn't count how much she drinks at "day care."
DH and I are both lactose intolerant, so we drink Lactaid milk, and that's just for cereal, so we don't really go through it that quickly.
  • whole milk? you are brave. if i drink milk, it has to be skim or 1%, and i put ice in it. i'll only drink whole milk if i am having cookies and have nothing else to dip them in.

i'm also interested in seeing what my grocery bill will be during the teenage years.

Genetics play a big part.  My teeth are awesome and I was allergic to milk.
  • Milk with ice in it?!?!

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

  • it's never cold enough. my beverages have to be almost frozen.
  • DH and The Boy drink 3 gallons a week. It's insane. I hate milk, DH loves it and guess what...our kid loves milk. And DH eats for like 2.5 people so if we end up just having one kid, then regardless I'm still going to have to feed the equivalent of like 5 people.

I drink skim with ice exclusively. Like, we buy 6-8 gallons of 2% a month for Bacon and H, and I get 4 gallons of skim just for me. <div>
