Wedding Woes

Thank you gift halp

SIL and her MIL threw me a baby shower this weekend. It was lovely, and I know SIL has had a lot on her plate recently. I sent them thank yous for their gifts, but I'd like to send a separate card and gift to each for all their work. I was going to get them a gift certificate to a spa via SpaFinder (they can use it at a bajillion different places here in town). But then I realized that SIL is so busy with her kid that she never has time to do that sort of stuff, and her MIL has a lady she goes to for everything so they may not get used.

I was thinking of putting a check in each card with a note that they should use it for something for themselves. But that seems impersonal.

The other option was just a GC to a store they like to shop at. But knowing SIL and her MIL, they might end up using it buy something for someone else.

I know this should not be that hard for me, but I am really thankful for everything they did and I don't want to half-ass this one.

this is really thoughtful of you, pmeg.  i think the gc is the best option.  even if they use it for someone else, that's their choice.

or just get them a gas card.

Don't send a check.  Anything but that.  Flowers, fruit, chocolates, wine basket.

She might like a gc from a maid service for the day, since she is so busy.

Flowers are a nice idea - or the gift card. No checks.

Agreed. A GC is better than a check.  I'd do an edible arrangement, honestly.  They can get pricey, though.  But some kind of fruit basket or other edible gift would probably be enjoyed.

if you got a spa certificate you could throw in a coupon for babysitting as well.

what about taking them out for lunch or dinner? We did this for ILs as a thank you for hosting our wedding.

Has drop-in daycare come to PHX yet? You might want to get a gift card/cert/prepay for the reg fee and a couple hours for your SIL.

Otherwise, I say gift cards or flowers.

All of the replies have good options, but flowers are my favorite.
