I am terrible at ironing

Just awful.

Pants are ok, but I end up ironing more wrinkles into shirts than they had before I started.  And how do you iron sleeves?  It's impossible.

Sorry, DH.  You'll have to take care of whatever the dryer doesn't get.  I don't know where you thought you were going to hang shirts in the van anyway.

If there was a "like" button I would use it, this is me exactly.  I can't iron, at all.

I don't believe in ironing. I hang pretty much all of my work clothes to dry, and for the most part, they are wrinkle free.

If I ever have something that needs to be pressed, I'll steam it or have it professionally cleaned.

DH does his own ironing when he need to wear a dress shirt.

This is why I send all my work clothes to the cleaners.

I drink wine and watch television while ironing. It makes it go much easier.

oh, white people.  surprise, no one -- i know how to iron.

    - get a hot iron.  like, super hot.  cotton needs to be ironed with the hotness at like 9,009,212.
    - use water.  you can use sizing, which is sold in spray cans, but i don't like it because i think it adds residue.  ideally, your iron will have spray that comes out of the plate, not spritzed out the front.
    - iron the collar, cuffs and yoke if there is one, the front and back, and then the sleeves.  i personally like to iron on the inside of the collar, the outside cuffs, the inside yoke, the inside front and inside back, and then the outside sleeves.
    - if you are not wearing right away, hang on a nice hanger.  yes, no wire hangers.
    - button the top, and at least one middle button

for dresses, i turn them inside out and then iron them that way.  i iron the skirt first and then the bodice.

You have to iron some things. I know how to iron, but not as well as my mom. I still ask her to iron for me when I'm home.

    She has mad skills.

HMo, we're made in heaven for each other.  Do you sometimes iron the seams on certain skirts and shirts so that they'll lay flatter and nicer?  I have 2 skirts I have to do that to.

My mom has this amazing German iron that is the best iron ever.  It's so good, it's almost like a workout to pick the sucker up but you can iron anything in about 2 minutes.  I love it and regularly try to steal it.  She pats me down for it.

This is why I have to stick to knits.  And H's shirts and pants get sent to the cleaners.

Hm...question of the day:  do non-sewers, clothes loving people know what the yoke of the shirt is?
  • Options
Do all shirts have yokes?  I only know what it is when there is a defined yoke, like this:

Most of my shirts don't have them unless it's mocking menswear.  Mens dress shirts are really the only thing I can think of that really has them that often.

i dont even know what a yoke is. i don't iron. i waste electricity with the dryer and stick to buying wrinkle-proof items, or send the stuff to the dry cleaner. H has his stuff professionally cleaned and pressed.

    i heart polyester.
