s/o kitchen remodel & question

As you probably know, we live in an apt.

At some point we discovered that when remodeling the bathroom someone just threw the new linoleum on top of the old linoleum.

Now, we've been in the apt over 4 years and there are some cosmetic changes I would like and I don't know if we're in the right to request.

The sink in the bathroom has a spot rusting out where the two drain holes near the top are. <can we request a new sink?

The linoleum in the bathroom is peeling up and the stripping around the tub is also peeling up - can we ask them to fix this? H thinks we'd be assholios for asking, but I say we pay rent and they should make the changes.

You pay rent, its the owners' responsibility to keep up the property to some extent.  They may have to do it anyway if you choose to move out by the next rental term.

You can always put in the request.  You may get a no for some of it.  They may agree to do the remainder.

Flooring yes, sink, meh.  If the flooring is peeling up as well as the strip AROUND the tub, that indicates water damage to me, therefore it's important.  The sink, if they want to...sure, otherwise it is merely cosmetic (as you mentioned).

I replaced the toilet in my rental house because my tenant had knee problems and the old one was too short.  I didn't really have to based on the way the lease is written, but she's a good tenant, so I did it.  In other words, it probably won't hurt to ask.

ETA:  Ditto O-face - the flooring and the bathtub stripping could be indicators of a larger problem, or could lead to one, so eventually they may need to be addressed anyway.  There's probably something in your lease about repairs/upkeep.

    Agreed with O.

As for the sink are you sure it's rust and not hard water stains?  If it's hard water something like CLR might help.

6 you know how there are sometimes two separate holes in case the sink is full? One is rusted so badly it's no longer a round hole but sort of a sharp rusty amoeba.

Gotcha.  I'd let the landlord know both problems and see what happens.
