Wedding Woes

Do you love everything in your closet?

I watched some show yesterday and the fashion expert said that you should love  everything in your closet.

I don't love everything in my closet. I love some shoes, a couple of dresses  and a few tops, but not everything. She said that you shouldn't wear something you don't love.

Ok. What if it was on sale? I can live with just ok, if it was on sale.:)

I've heard this too, but I have strong hoarder tendencies and fluctuating sizes, so I have a whole lot of stuff in my closet that I don't even wear.   If I only kept what I love, I'd only have 2 outfits.
  • No. I certainly do not. My taste and my budget don't see eye to eye, so I wear what is comfortable or is gifted to me.

  • I do. I'm ruthless about cleaning out the closet. Mostly because if I don't love it, I won't wear it at all, so what's the point of saving it?

I also don't hoard different sizes. Everything I own fits me. If it ceases to fit me, it gets tossed. There's seriously nothing better for my ego than knowing that I can throw on anything in my wardrobe and look fantastic.

The only exceptions are clothes with specific uses: I have bathing suits that I'm not crazy about, but that's because it's really expensive to find suits I would be crazy about. That's one thing I won't buy used, too.

nope - I'm a clothes hoarder. I will start giving things away when i KNOW that i won't wear it again. (like if it's too young or outdated) if it's age appropriate and not too trendy - like jeans or work clothes, i'll hang on to other sizes in the hopes of fitting into them. (This came in handy with losing more than 20lbs from my pre pregnancy weight- i'm still slowly losing weight, and can fit into old outfits again.)

I'll be 'meh' about something for YEARS...then suddenly decide I lvoe it again.
  • Love is a very strong work.  I like everything.  I don't love everything.
  • No, I love very few things in my closet and it makes me mad every morning. I would like to have a closet that only has things in it that I love, and I'm going to try to fix it.

  • I love the majority of things in my closet. If I'm just "meh" on something, I won't buy it. If I'm over something, it gets donated.

I've been working on editing things like clothes, accessories, etc., so that I don't have outdated, overworn things just hanging around.

  • I tend to go by the 6 months or a year (for wintery clothes) rule. Haven't worn it in forever? Chuck it. The only exception is my button-down shirt collection, which comes out when I teach in the summer and stays in a bin the rest of the year. I don't love those enough to wear them all year 'round.

I tend to love about 95% of my clothes, but I hate that I don't have any reason to wear some of them. See: My cocktail dresses. Too fancy to wear on a random day, not crazy enough to wear with combat boots for a show.

I also don't love my teaching slacks, but that's just a matter of taking the time to get something tailored. Again, those also only get worn when I teach.
