s/o pedestrian laws

i think I posted this story before. . .

My college campus is an urban campus with several large hospitals. Many of the older students live in the neighborhood south of campus which is a typical city neighborhood - on street parking, lots of one way streets, few stop signs and even fewer lights.

One of my friends was crossing the street (not at an intersection) - she stepped out from between cars and got hit by an ambulance. (This was 100% her fault.) The ambulance didn't have their lights/sirens on, but they did have a patient, so they couldn't take friend to the hospital. The driver told her that he would call a cop/ambulance for her to get her up to the hospital.

Friend was laying on the side of the road (she had a broken arm and leg among other injuries) when the cop showed up. He blocked off part of the street so friend would not get hit again, and to add insult to injury, wrote her a $100 ticket for jaywalking.

Am I the only one that thinks she should get a ticket?

I totally think she should have gotten a ticket, but to hand her one when she's lying there injured and waiting for an ambulance...it just takes a certain kind.  It sounds like the cop is/was a hardass.  I'm not sure I'd be able to do it.

i can see *why* she crossed where she did (cause she would have had to walk like 3-4 blocks out of her way to actually cross at a light or crosswalk) - but she should have been safe about it.

I can see giving her a ticket - if nothing else to pay for the time and resources (like the cop) that were used as a result of her not paying attention.

Yes, the timing was off, but tickets are sometimes warranted, irregurdless.

    Bad situation all around.

it might have been a protective move, giving her the ticket.

From cops I've talked to, giving the child/pedestrian/whomever a ticket at the time = less chance of the person in the right/driver/whomever being sued.
And more chance for it to hold up in court if they ARE sued.
