Did you have the party this past weekend?

    We did, and now I'm scrambling to get caught up on everything.  Thanks for the birthday wishes!  Highlights:

    1.  Storms in Chicago Wednesday, with horrible flight delays.  Didn't set foot in my bedroom until 3:00 a.m. Thursday.  Maddie was up at 6:20.  Oy!

    2.  Nanny couldn't take her Thursday, so I schlepped the (almost) birthday girl around on errands all day and she came through like a champ. 

    3.  Relatives descended on the house Friday.  That was fun, but Maddie didn't want to nap--too much excitement.  

    4.  DH's birthday was Friday, so we all went out to his favorite Mexican place.  That was fun.  We were running SO late that I was afraid Napless Maddie would lose it, but she did great.

    5.  Maddie's party was Saturday, and it went off beautifully.  She still didn't nap enough, but she was in good spirits for the most part.  Monkey cake came out great.  Forgot to put up the streamers, then realized it and didn't care.  Stuffed everyone full of food and sweet tea.  Not a lot of beer/wine drinkers, so more left over for us. 

    6.  Maddie got some really great stuff, but her favorite (by far) is her Baby Stella.  (linky)

    7.  MY CAMERA IS MISSING and I am heartbroken.  Haven't seen it since Father's Day.  We've turned the house upside down.  DH has video of the party, but still.  My dad took a ton of pictures and his are usually pretty good, so that will have to do.  (sMIL took some too, but hers are usually terrible--red eyes and open mouths and everything.  Still, she might have a handful of good ones, too.) 

    8.  Sunday everyone went home but my dad and his wife, so we just hung out.  Put Maddie in her wading pool for the first time, which she loved, until she realized that she was stuck inside.  Then she pitched a fit.  Yay memories.

    9.  Dropped my dad and his wife at the airport yesterday, then took the birthday girl swimming at an indoor water park (loved it) and out for ice cream.

    10.  DH, who has no appreciation of drama or gossip, met his dad for burgers and beer Saturday night and neglected to tell me until YESTERDAY that his dad said SIL is hooked on prescription pills.  Oy!  That certainly explains why she spent most of the party conked out on one entire side of our sectional. 

    I am now officially the mother of a non-toddling toddler.

    WOW!  Sounds like Maddie is a champ! 

    Glad it all went well besides your passed out SIL.  How long has she been hooked on pills?  Is this her first go-round (that you know of) with addiction or just another thing for her?

    No idea.  Honestly, I just figured she was bored.  She just got divorced, so not sure if the pills are the cause or the effect.  And then she was all "I want a baby so BAD!"  When DH told me about the pills, I was like "Hell no to a kid for her.  Sorry, but no."

    I like her.  We're not close, but I hope she gets sorted out.

    Oh, and my dad and FIL really hit it off.  They've only seen each other at our rehearsal and wedding, and I guess everyone was kind of busy then.

    And my dad's wife is still a nut--she has to be into everything.  Example:  I'd be sitting and feeding Maddie a snack, and she would push her high chair back from the table.  Dad's Wife would be all "Do you want me to push her back to the table?"  No, I'm sitting right here.  If I want her back at the table, I'll reach over and scoot her.  It wouldn't have been a big deal, but she was like that THE ENTIRE TIME.
