Hypnobirthing seems to work for some and not for others. I've seen people get so caught up in the terminology and details of it they forget what the point of the technique is, to relax. But, like I said, I've seen it work really well for some women. I think my biggest beef is it doesn't always seem to involve the support person that well (could just be the people I've seen use it) and the terminology. They call contractions anything but, and I've had women and their support person actually get mad at me as the nurse when I slip up and don't use their term.

I think couples do really well with Bradley, it gives a very strong role to the support person and doesn't throw in all the word changes and couples really seem to like it.

Ah, so these are the women who want a dark room with no mention of pain except to call a contraction a "rush" while they lean against a corner rocking back and forth? Thanks for the response. We went with the "go with it" theory last time and ended up getting an epi at 7cm. I'd like to try med-free again, so I'll def look into Bradley. Thanks again!

No problem! Hypnobirthing does use words like rush, surge, wave...etc. But I wouldn't knock the darkened room, moving, rocking, music, etc. That is a standard of care where i work, it leads to more relaxation and a calmer environment.

And the bonus with the second labor is it tends to be shorter, I've seen plenty of mom's who had an epidural with the first go on to have a completely med free birth the next time.
