Wedding Woes

product review--food

I think this replaces nutella in my home.  And meijer has it...Biscoff Spread

On the downside, I'm not quite sure what all to put it on.  Nilla wafers and plain bagels to start with.

It tastes like these:

in spread-form.

I shall add it to waffles--that'd be easier than syrup to eat while driing :-P

(besides, I'm out of home-made peanutbutter for waffles until next weekend when I'll make mroe)
  • YESYESYES.  They have something call "Cookie Butter" at TJs and I will be getting this.  YEP.

  • GBCK, how do you make your PB?  We've tried it a couple of times and it just never tastes right.  And we already use natural PB, so it's not the sugar that's missing.  Our next experiment is to actually add some oil to see if that helps up the flavor for us.
  • Do you use roasted peanuts, V?

    add the oil.
If you snag cocounut oil, that's even better.

I just dump in nuts in the blender (I buy the store-brand equivilent of planters, 1 container salted, 1 unsalted), add some oil (olive oil works, but cocounut is better) and sugar and a touch of vanilla.

But I always find I need oil.  Iknow the recipes say you don't, but having it is better.  makes it more spreadable.
  • I would agree with that GBCK.  Sometimes I like a touch of cinnamon to mine too.  I know it's weird.

  • it's speculoos spread!  it's also great when you dip a graham cracker into the jar and then dip the speculoos spread-covered graham cracker into a bag of chocolate chips.

  • Okay.  We did use roasted and salted, but everything we read just keeps saying, No, just throw it in the food processor, it should taste great!  And it just doesn't.

Coconut oil is a brilliant idea.  I love that stuff.  We make popcorn with it and it's awesome.

I shared it with the child, but kids do NOT understand the finer rules about double-dipping.
So there are now nilla wafer crumbs in it.

She's cute enough to be forgiven, but I may have to buy her her own jar.
  • Hmmm...DH and I may have to start making our own PB.  What do you store it in?  Do you keep it in the pantry or fridge?

I put it in tupperware or whatever I haev handy (so...last time, an empty jam jar I washed) and toss it in the fridge.
It would probably be OK on the shelf at the rate we eat it, but for long term, it should be in the fridge.

Then, if it's to 'stiff' from being cold you just throw it in the microwave for 10 seconds and it's perfect consistancy.  A little longer in the microwave and it's AMAZING on ice-cream.
  • Speculoos/speculaas are Dutch. You're welcome America.
