How are you doing it?  I once in a while find mold in hunks of leaves that haven't been stirred very well.  You shouldn't be crusting over with mold or stinking, but you want things damp and organisms growing.

Molding is part of the decomposition process for some materials, so it is going to happen. However, you want to make sure things aren't too damp in your composter. And yes, keep sh1t mixed up.

What everyone said.  It can mold, but stir.

    yes, and yes.

what kind of composter are you using? do you use a good blend of green/brown materials?

you need moisture and  air circulation for good breakdown, so like the other said, make sure you stir.

We compost in our backyard, and stuff definitely molds.  And grows some GORGEOUS weird flower thing that we don't know what it is but loves our compost.  In the summer, we stir it up every few weeks.
