Wedding Woes

Oh My God

DH just called because he's shaken up.  DH never gets shaken up.

They were about to light up a boiler when one of his guys crawled out of it.  He was literally seconds from setting a man on fire and killing him.

I'm a little shaky myself.

Re: Oh My God

  • Ahhhh!

    Oh My God is right.
  • My heart is pounding just hearing about this!

  • 1) why was the guy *in* the boiler?
    2) aren't there safety measures taken to prevent this?

    1) They go in the boilers to do work and inspections
    2) there are supposed to be safety measures.  DH has been battling to get them automated and standardized for the last year.  They hand write lockouts and confined space.  Clearly something was missed this time.  Since he's not a director or in the safety dept he's been met with an uphill battle.  That will end today I'm sure.

Ugh.  That sucks that he cannot get people on board regarding safety.

DH's company has *stringent* safety standards.  He vents and we occasionally joke about stuff that may be 'ridiculous' to us, but honestly it's saved a lot of people from injuries and worse.

<div>yup, it's unfortunate that it takes a near miss or an injury to get things corrected. </div><div>
</div><div>my company leases our office building in houston, so it's hard for us to get the building updated. it took a woman falling down the stairs and breaking her leg before they finally realized that the lighting in the stairwells was insufficient - despite people complaining for the year and half that we were here before the injury. </div>

We laughed at the safety analysis for making coffee.  Lockouts and confined space not so much
  • Eek.  Scary!  Your poor DH.
  • That's terrible.  I really hope they listen to him now, though it shouldn't have taken an almost-tragedy.

  • Yes, this would make all of the blood completely drain away. Let's hope this is a good get serious about safety checks CTJ moment for the higher ups

  • That is awful.  Sorry he had to get that close, but hopefully they will listen to him now.

    Jesus.

  • Your husband and his coworker should sue for emotional distress. Maybe that will get them to change the safety regulations.
  • Holy sh!t.....glad the guy crawled out when he did!
