Wedding Woes

::jojo::

Did I ever tell you what my endrocronologist said?

Insulin resistant.

My fasting glucose is always 85 - 90. So, it never goes too low.

I can however, eat a stack of cinnimon roll frech toast with syrup and jack my numbers up to 220.

    Interesting, so essentially, you nearly, but not quite type 2 diabetic? If and when you have kids, be sure to have an early 1 hour GTT.

    Yeah, pretty much "pre-diabetic." She said by the time I'm 40, I'll likely be on insulin (I'm 32 now). If I have a baby, I'll totally get GD and it'll just stick around as Type 2 after labor.

    Both of H's maternal grandparents have diabetes and they are not on insulin. I'd like to avoid that as much as possible.

    She said the next step would be nurtitional counseling, but since I'm not diabetic, insurance wouldn't pay for it. So, that will have to wait. I'm also eating all the funnel cakes I want now, you know before it's too late ;)

    Ha! Well make sure when your toes start to fall off to take pictures for Busy.

    But seriously, that sucks. I would be interested to know what they think caused the IR at such a young age in someone of normal weight who lacks primary relatives that also have it. Illness? Medications? Living in BFE?  although in most cases we never do know.

    They didn't wager a guess to the cause. She did scare the piss out of me by telling me I might have PCOS, too. I guess IR and PCOS are highly comorbid - so the good times just keep coming.

    That's true, they can be. If I had to wager a guess, I'd be pretty surprised if you had a serious case. You don't appear to show any other symptoms from the pictures I've seen, unless you shave daily.

    No. I do not shave.

    However, I'm not showing any diabetes symptoms either. AND, I had accute appendicits and I wasn't in pain. I'm a weird patient. I probably have everything and just don't know it yet.

    No one has ever mentioned my ovaries feeling weird and I ovulate, so I think I am OK. I hope. I really can't take much more.
