Wedding Woes

Two TMZ items

1.  What's going on with the Jackson's yo?  MJ's mom is missing or found or ran away, they are trying to get the executors to step down, there's a custody fight brewing over the kids, cops are being called, Jermaine and Janet are fighting in the street.

2. It's been a hot minute and there's already a lawsuit filed in the Colorado shooting case.  The guy wasn't injured...He's suing for emotional trauma/damages.

The defendants in the lawsuit:

'1.  The theater.  Karpel claims it was negligent for the theater to have an emergency door in the front that was not alarmed or guarded.  It's widely believed Holmes entered the theater with a ticket,  propped the emergency door open from inside, went to his car and returned with guns.

2.  Holmes' doctors.  Karpel says it appears Holmes was on several medications -- prescribed by one or more doctors --  at the time of the shooting and he believes the docs did not properly monitor Holmes.

3.  Warner Bros.  Karpel says "Dark Knight Rises" was particularly violent and Holmes mimicked some of the action.  The attorney says theater goers were helpless because they thought the shooter was part of the movie.  Karpel tells TMZ, "Somebody has to be responsible for the rampant violence that is shown today." '

    1. I heard the mom was missing, but then found and ok.  Every time I see Paris I am floored at how beautiful she is.

    2. Is an asshole.

he was so excited by the violence in the first 15 minutes of the movie that he left the theater, came back with gas/a bunch of guns/body armor/whatever/ and shot up the place?

    Exactly. Total WTF.

I had actually wondered about this.  There are usually regulations re: emergency doors and how they have to be kept/checked.  I thought they were required to be alarmed, i.e. if you go out one an alarm should go off to warn others of the emergency.  I think it would depend on their state codes though.  But my first thought was why the heck didn't the emergency door alarms go off?  More interesting (in an academic way) will be if they DID go off but the movie was so blasted loud it couldn't be heard?  If it was over the recommended noise level or such.

I'm a little ~headtilt~ about the soonness.  I suspect you'll see some PTSD cases coming along through time, b/c it was highly traumatic.  But it's not even been a week, no self respecting doctor would testify to that so early.

The other points I don't think they have a chance in heck of proving.  It'd be interesting to see what's in his medical records and to find out if he had any sort of therapy records.  I'm not sure what sort of reporting laws they have ni Colorado.  I don't think anyone will buy the idea that the studio is responsible.  Sure, it's a hyperviolent movie, but the ratings systems and the previews are enough to establish that.  Making the line between the movie and this guy and the studio's responsibility?  It seems a pretty big leap.

Yes, he's a douche canoe. But he's just looking to settle for $100k or less, and he'll probably get it. The "merits" are meaningless.

I recall reading early on that the emergency exit door for that theatre was locked and people couldn't get out. If true, that is DEFINITELY lawsuit-worthy.
