Wedding Woes

i need to complain about bikes and cars.

i know this argument is as old as whether or not people should have a dog or all dogs should be put down or whatever, but too bad.

i hate bikers, pretty much all of them.  i just never know if they are going to be a good biker and do things like stop for traffic or be a bad biker and decide which traffic laws they will follow.

now that school is starting again, there will be a frillion more terrible bikers who don't know how to bike in the big city and i will have to be all afeared that i will kill one and somehow have to hide my smile.

    Amen.
If your bicycle is a vehicle, it should be a vehicle and follow those protocols.
If you think your'e a pedestrian, then follow THOSE protocols.

I agree. They need to decide if they're a vehicle or a pedestrian. If you're a vehicle, you stop at the mfing stop signs and lights! If you're a pedestrian you get out of the mfing road!
I would love to clothesline a biker someday.

    ::sigh::

    I know.

rpotd: Also, my building shares a lot with the foreign language learner building and there was a bus of kids unloadiing this AM, with luggage. These effers are the worst. They constantly stand in the middle of the road, which I refuse to believe they do in their home country, because of, you know, THE CARS IN THE ROAD.

I'm also a biker-hater.  Both motor and non.

There are pedestrian protocols? Because I thought it was all leisurely jaywalking across arterial roads and giving the stink-eye to cars who have the right-of-way. <div>

    I'm an agressive pedestrian myself.
But key to that is being smrt enough to NOT DIE.

I'd mind a lot less if they didn't make me feel like I was seconds away from a vehicular manslaughter charge, that's for sure.

    :-(
I'm a bicyclist who uses my bike way more than my car, and it makes me so sad to hear people hating. At the same time, I hate those kind of bikers too, because they often make otherwise nice people driving cars into bloodthirsty people with road rage who want to kill me. Personally, when I'm riding my bike, I really really hate a lot of drivers, because I see so many of them break the rules, and I have had too many close calls to count (thank god I've never been hit). And all of those close calls have been the driver's fault. Drivers don't use their turn signals here, and also try to turn right from the right all-purpose lane instead of the bike lane (here cars are supposed to be required to MERGE into the bike lane if it's on the far right BEFORE turning right to avoid turning in front of bikes - this never happens). A lot of drivers simply don't look before turning. Also a lot of drivers just don't pay any attention to anything (I've seen any number of people driving/turning one way and looking completely the other, so having no idea if they're going to hit anything/one). And don't even get me started on drivers talking on their phones, texting, doing their makeup, etc (handheld phones illegal here while driving, not nearly well enough enforced). Bike laws are different in most states, but I find that in most places, people driving cars have no idea what the rights of bicycles on the roads are - many people seem to think that bikes shouldn't be allowed on the roads. When a lane isn't wide enough for a car to pass a bike safely in lane, the bike is allowed to take the lane, and I often do, just to make it absolutely clear that I'm there, and you (the drivers) need to respect my rights. When I'm riding, I follow the rules of the road, except for rolling the occasional stop sign when no one is around, and let's face it, cars do that too. I just wish the cars would follow the rules (LAWS) too.

P.S. Sorry about the rant, I just wanted you all to know that there are good bikers out there too, and there are plenty of bad drivers out there too who make me want to murder them (whether I'm riding or driving). I tend to drive/ride defensively, working under the assumption that people are ignorant, selfish idiots, who don't care if they cut people off, and feel they need to get to their destination as fast as possible (therefore doing really stupid things to do so). Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised to find that this is not the case, and sometimes I'm proved right.
