The Grey

OMG, I hated this so hard.  H thought it would be a great thing to watch on a very dreary, rainy, cold day when I was already on a let down from my brother ans SIL leaving after a visit.  No, it wa not a great thing to watch.  It's going slightly below AI on the list of most depressing movies ever.

i actually remember liking this movie. i DO NOT like AI. you can ask H about that because AI just makes me angry. robots do not have feelings.

here is a review i found from when i reviewed it about a year ago:

liam nieson is good in pretty much everything.

no spoilers - recommend during a time when you are not going to fall asleep. it drags a little in the beginning and the volume is way too low until things get going.




semi-spoilers -  it had a realy good twisty sort of ending. liam nieson is a know-it-all in all of this movies, huh.

I love anything Liam Neeson is in, so I loved this horribly depressing movie.

But if they do have feelings....SPOILER ALERT....then that poor robot is trapped forever more in lonliness.

i resent hollywood for making people think they need to have feelings for a lifeless robot. that is trickery. i have enough feelings for real people, TYVM.

Well, not to get too deep for Monday am, but I don't believe anyone has a "soul".  But you're not all robots to me!  

The "having feelings for a lifeless robot" exploration was the point of the movie.  It wasn't Hollywood manipulation.  And you came down on the side of Robot = just AI, nothing more, so stick 'em in the circus to be shot!!!  Nothing wrong with that.

yep, that's basically how i feel about it! they don't need to be shot (*I* am not a lifeless soulless robot), but manufactured feelings from a computer is not the same thing as an organic person's feelings and emotions.

OMG, AI was one of the best movies until the last half hour and then it became the Worst.Movie.EVAR.  I don't htink I've ever been so angry about a movie.

I did really like The Grey, but you do have to suspend belief for the last part of it.  I mean, really?  Some of those things were ridiculous and no one would have survived.  Not even Liam Neeson.

Oh, I'll say I pretend the last half hour doesn't exist.  They could've just left it off with him staring at the Blue Fairy.  I think it would've been interesting to see some weird little graphic that looked like a program kicking in, to make him believe he was with his mother.  Heck, they could've even had him frozen into a new Ice Age, stuck in an endless loop with his mother.

But the aliens, oh the aliens.  So, so bad.

True story - we saw The Grey in the theater.  When it was over, the dipschit behind us stood up and said "OMG I can't wait until the next one!  The way they left it like that, there HAS to be a sequel."  DH and I looked at each other and laughed out loud.

Also, the whole movie I was yelling at the screen for Liam to PUT HIS DAMN HOOD UP!  It is COLD!  WHY ARE YOU DENYING YOURSELF HEAD WARMTH?!

I love Liam, but he is pretty much the worst wolf hunter ever.  Also, I about AI. It creeped me out.
