Saturday night, DD slept better, but not great. Still was up 2-3x through the night and then the girl slept til 8am on Sunday. ::grumble::
We got dressed and went to church. MIL said she wore that particular outfit b/c she knew DD would like it. Okay, whatever.
FIL teaches a Sunday School class - it's older than my age group, but they wanted me (and DD) to sit in their class for the a.m. In other words, they wanted to show me off. Sunday school was okay - Charles, our lunch server was in that class and he was a riot. He played with DD and she loved him. Charles is one of two black men that attend that church. So when someone came up and said, "Oh, [DD] is just trying to figure out how you got such a dark tan!" you know it rolled off his back. But I had to turn away and find my eyeballs, eyebrows and jaw.
FIL gave a great lesson and I was really impressed by how knowledgeable he is - of course he's almost finished with his Master's, so it makes sense, but I was impressed regardless. MIL did nothing but make googoo sounds at DD while DD ignored her and chomped on Charles' hand. Not surprisingly, MIL was more distracting than DD during class.
I dropped DD off at the nursery after class and we went to service. I wasn't a fan of the pastor - he talked a lot of politics for a sermon about "walking with Jesus, being a witness and living the life of a true Christian." The highlights included a high-profile murder/rape of a child from their town, the evils (adult stores) allowed by the local gov't and of course, the AZ immigration stuff. MIL got up and sang a song about having blind faith. She did a nice job. FIL said, "I think that's the best I've ever heard you in the 25+ years we've been married. Honestly." Cue the MIL tears.
We went home and MIL had a crockpot roast waiting, which was very good but salty. I had to drink a gallon of water on the way home to balance it out.
The entire time I packed and put the bags in the car, MIL cried and smothered DD. FIL just helped me and rolled his eyes at MIL. We said our goodbyes and I think my tires squealed as I pulled away.
I got home to a burnt, tired H and 80% of a new roof. He'll finish it this week after work. So happy to be home. And so glad we don't have to see them until August.
Part 5, observations and my own church feelings.
