And old movie review, and an older movie review

Teeth:

Maybe it's because I had also been reading Voice of the Fire this weekend, but I came away from my weekend entertainment feeling ucky and unsettled.  I'm not sure what I thought of this movie.  It was engrossing, and while by the time I got to the very end it was pretty expected, the plot didn't take the standard path I was expecting (if you can call any path for a movie about vag teeth standard).  I think I feel about it almost the way I feel about Goodfellas: it drew me in and made me feel ways about stuff, but I didn't really enjoy it.  So my take is that it is wildly successful as art, but a huge fail as entertainment.  I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

The Unfinished Dance:

Margaret O'Brien freaks me the f*ck out, has since her portrayal of a preschool sociopath in "Meet Me in St. Louis", but since Cyd Charisse was in this and I adore her, I gave it a try.  It was... okay.  Much as I love Cyd, she was ill used in this - I don't know if it was the choreography or what, but her usual sublime dancing was merely mediocre.  And Karin Booth's dancing as the famous prima ballerina was even worse.  I tell you hwhat, if I'd danced like that back in my ballet days, I'd have gotten my legs and arms thwacked with Madame Sebatier's cane.  If it weren't for Danny Thomas (in what I'm pretty sure was his first role), I don't think I'd have liked this at all.  So, meh.  If you want Cyd Charisse, try "The Bandwagon" instead.
