Roundabout vent

Anyone have much experiemce with roundabouts?
I travel through one every day on my way to drop off DD at my mom's house. I personally love them, especially for this particular intersection. It's been there for about 4 years now, so people SHOULD know WTF the deal is with them by now. Granted, there are only a handful of them in Columbus, but even if you've never driven through one before the signs are very clear on what you are supposed to do.
Anyway, DD & I almost died this morning when a car decided to completely ignore the rules (and all common sense) and turn right from the inside lane! I'm still all shaken up about it and pissed off. What the hell is wrong with people!!! And then they layed on their horn like I had done something wrong!!! WTELMF?

did you chase them through a wegman's parking lot and yell at them?

roundabouts are pretty common here in dc, but they are still a giant pita due to tourist traffic. but no one makes a turn out of an inside lane; that's just a death sentence.

Roundabouts are the trend in my area, so they're going in EVERYWHERE. I personally love them vs. stop signs because as long as they're used correctly, the traffic flow is so.much.better.

BUT, I've had similar experiences to what you're describing and they're fvcking scary as hell and fill me with rage.

There's fvcking signs at every roundabout POINTING you in the right direction. Why do people have to be so fvcktarded??

Ha. Get this. About 20 miles east of here they are putting in a 2 lane roundabout to intersect a highway and city road. In Iowa. Um....can you say death trap?

I'm honestly excited to see people crash there, well hear about it anyway. Then I can say "told you so" and tip my hat.

There is one in my city, but I *think* there is only one lane. I use it on a semi-regular basis, when I visit one client. I've never had a near-death experience.

roundabouts are more common in europe.

290 into chicago becomes congress pkwy right after the river, where there's a stop light. when you've been going 60mph for about 20 miles and then hit a stoplight, it can be abrupt. i've seen many cars nearly plow into cross traffic.

NOLA - think about the Arc De Triomphe in Paris...the streets that circle around it. That is a roundabout. There aren't any in your area, that I know about. Admittedly, I don't know that are especially well.

i've encountered a few in dowtown Houston and when driving in DC.

When we lived in Philly, we used to go to NJ often, and they have probably the worst road cofigurations that I've ever seen - you can't drive more than 10 feet without a toll, and you can't make a left turn. (either need to go through a traffic circle or turn right and go around a big loop.)

There is one tiny roundabout on campus in my town. People will turn left into it (just to keep things interesting).

They are great when people know how to use them. I am skeered of two+ lane roundabouts. I always stay in the far right.

the michigan left! oh, those are the WORST. you drive past the road you want to turn on, make a u turn and then a right turn onto the road -- WTF. just make a turning lane and/or add a signal arrow.

I <3 Michigan lefts--they make sense to me.
But roundabouts hurt my brain--especially when they try to add 'fast moving' and 'slow moving' and hope it'll work.
They keep threatening to do one near my parent's house and it will be a DISASTER.

BTW, when did they quit calling them traffic circles?

If we ever get a 'magic' one, I will jsut turn in my license:

I hate MIchigan lefts. (Well, I hate Michigan in general, so there's that.)

For those who haven't been through a roundabout, think European Vacation: "Look kids, Big Ben! Parliament!"

I take for granted that most people are smarter than Clark Griswold, but I'm slowly learning that they're not.

We have two-lane roundabouts in the neighborhood near Bacon's school. The right lane is for exiting in one or two stops. The left lane is for exiting in two or three stops. I am the only one who has read the multiple signs detailing this.

    It's fun.

Nevermind, it will be an urban 2-3 lane roundabout. At the intersection of two highways. *snort* Awesome.

Even I know how to navigate roundabouts. The signs I've seen are all pretty clear.

And don't you love when you did nothing wrong and someone honks at you?

I've only come across two roundabouts in this city. One has a pretty common theme of being IN TRAFFIC and stopping to let some idiot who just pulled up to a stop sign get into the roundabout. How can you not figure out how this works? Do you even know what a stop sign suggests?
