O-Face

I haz lots of make up questions.

1. Thoughts on brushes? I want to expand my eyeshadow brushes. I have some Real Techniques brushes, which I love, but they don't have a very big selection. I saw Coastal Scents and am considering those. I really don't care for my E.L.F. brushes.

2. Where do you buy your Milani stuff? The Walgreens near my house doesn't carry it so I'm thinking I may have to make a trip to CVS.

3. Thoughts on eyebrow kits? I just bought Benefit Brow Zings but I'm sort of wishing I bought the Anastasia or Too Faced kit. I'm sort of meh on it. The powder is a bit more orange-y than I'd like and it didn't seem like that in the store.

4. Last question- eyeshadow primer? Any faves?

Re: O-Face

  • Here's my 2 cents-
I have been using the same Anastasia brow powder since 2009, every day, and I probably still have another 6 months left.  At least. It lasts FOREVER.

I like the Ulta and Sephora brand brushes.

I like the Lorac eyeshadow primer.

  • 1.  I really love the Real Technique brushes.  Sonia Kashuk also has good ones, and my favorite smaller and cheaper brush is a Target brush that is found in the nail polish aisle, it's probably $3 and it's called a small crease brush.

-Sigma is touted heavily but I haven't purchased any though not because I don't want to.

    2.  Milani-either online, Kmart or CVS.  Their offerings have shrunk, but I still like them a fair amount.  I love their eyebrow pencil for example.  It has a spooly on the other end instead of that useless brush crap.

    3.  Brows---you want a more ashy light blonde, I would look for ones that advertise as taupe, because it's less warm.  Anastasia has by far the best kits, and when I'm done with my Milani I might give them a go.  I found that the Maybelline define-a-brow in dark blonde is a good one, though it doesn't have a huge amount of product so I go through it so fast.  Or you could do an ashy brown powder, and a brush, and then hair spray and a spoolie.  I'm an endless spewer here.  I love brows.

    4.  Eyeshadow primer?  Do you have oily lids?  Because I really do like my Lime Crime shadow helper.  Yes, LIME CRIME.  Smaller brand, a bit cheaper and HUGE pot.  Though if you don't like dipping your finger in, it's a no go.  Another one I liked?  Nars, or laura mercier.  You could go the obvious route with Urban Decay but I find it separates after a time...

Most brands are doing good things with primers, it's just a hunt a peck kind of thing.

  • I'm now intrigued because Milani just released a eyeshadow primer and the reviews are generally positive. Yes, I need something to keep everything put because I end up with shadow in the corners and creases at the end of the day. I'll have to grab a Sonia Kashuk brush next item I'm at Target. I am also currently toting around 12 lip sticks/glosses/stains/balms in my purse. I need to figure out a better storage solution at home. I'm having lots of fun with makeup. I know your doing a no-buy but I'm buying for you.
  • The balms/stains: Do you want them all in your purse?  If not, I just use a like a pencil holder and stack them vertically, on their ends.  Some people also really like using the pen/pencil cups that you find in office supply stores.  It's funny how many people use those.

  • No I need to get them out. I need to take a trip down the office supple aisle and get something. My bathroom storage sucks so I want something pretty I can leave on the counter.
  • The $1 target section usually has some cute stuff. And the nicer office supply stuff is good too.
