My FMIL, the cynic...

Please help!  My FMIL negates every aspect of the wedding.  The venue is too far, the minister is a woman (she thinks it should be a man), the color blue isn't quite right, etc.  I actually don't think she has had one positive thing to say throughout our engagement.  To compound the issue, she is very close with my fiance's brother's girlfriend, who has been manufacturing negative stories about us and the wedding.  Why all the childish behavior?  We have done nothing but invite her to every wedding-related event (Seeing the venue, tasting the cake, shopping for dresses etc) and she has refused to join us or have any input until we finally make decisions.

Don't expect her to help and honestly, just leave her out.  She shouldn't have that much say anyway.

also, if you stop discussing the wedding with her and involving her in the planning process, you won't have to hear criticism of your ideas.

Stop inviting her to anything wedding related and stop sharing any wedding plans with her.   Same with your FBIL's GF.

is she saying all of this to you, or is she telling your fi and he is telling you?  this will effect my answer as to whom should be should to sit and shut it.

True story.  I'm sure that her critical behavior did not start with wedding planning.
