Wedding Woes

*6, Hmo, Taw, Wzz, DG, etc* BR question...

When do they start the 'pants off, dance off' appointments to see how you're progressing??

I'm 34w on Sunday. As of Tuesday, I'm on the every week plan with the Doc until DefConn makes his appearance.  I just don't want to be caught unawares and I need some taming down there for everyone's sake.

    **butting in**

36 week appt for me with nothing kooky going on that needs checking.  Unless you flat-out refuse them.

Internal exams don't always give a definitive answer to what's really going on with progression or when things will happen.  Some MW's won't really do them.  Some women really really get overworked and disheartened when an exam shows no progress.  Some women can keep that info in perspective and not lose it.

Also an easy route to pushing infection up to your cervix and uterus, even with sterile gloves.  To me this isn't as huge a deal before water breaks as it is afterwards.

From the NB line of thought ;)

Well the grooming needs to happen no matter what because it's making me crazy.

Interesting about the group B strep theory.  At some point they have to test you for that anyway, right?

Yes, I won't have an internal until 36 weeks.  Be prepared for what feels like everything up to the doctor's elbow, especially if they say "wow, your cervix is REALLY back there."

Ooohh...I'm having flashbacks to my last annual where the Dr was trying to get my cervix to 'pop out'...It was not a pleasant experience.  I'm sure that's 100,000x worse.

Yep, also be prepared for potential spotting (sometimes, sometimes not), depending on how much the doc treats you like a puppet.  If it only lasts the day, you're fine.

I was also going to say 36/37w.  But I only had that once, when I had to see another doc in the practice.  It doesn't much matter how dilated you are or whether you have Group B strep if you're having a c-section anyway.

Except the other doc wanted to be sure, becuase if I did go into labor early or somehow plop out the baby at home, they wanted to know whether I had GBS.  Um, ok.

I did get checked a couple of times for Dex, though, because I did go into labor on Friday night/Saturday morning and the c/s wasn't planned until Tuesday.  It's not something I'd do for fun, but I didn't have the "OMG your whole arm is in my vanjaya!" feeling that people tend to talk about, either.

i also had the checkity-check at week 38 and 39.  there was spotting afterwards.  neither dh nor i knew/remembered the check was coming, and dh nearly left a dh-shaped hole in the door when he found out.

I failed to mention to DH that my very first u/s was going to be an internal...He totally wigged out.  And then was jealous of the wand.  Hee.
